Electrolyte Solution Usage: it solution restores fluids & minerals lost to diarrhea or vomiting.
How to use Electrolyte Solution: don't add water. the solution is ready-to-use. total amount to be given is determined by severity about vomiting or diarrhea & degree of dehydration. You may need to contact your pharmacist for the exact amount to be given & for how long. Generally one to two ounces per pound of body weight is given over a period of 2 to 4 hours in it manner: one teaspoonful every 10 to 15 minutes for 30 minutes; if this is tolerated, give one tablespoonful every 15 to 20 minutes followed by 2 tablespoonfuls every 30 minutes. If not tolerated or if diarrhea persists, contact pharmacist. amount given each time may be gradually increased until 4 to 6 ounces (120 to 180 ml) can be given every 3 to 4 hours so that 1 to two quarts (1 to two liters) are taken per day while diarrhea continues (adults may need more).
Electrolyte Solution side effects: common side effect that usually goes away during treatment is mild vomiting. If it continues, call physician. Call the pharmacist immediately if any of following effects occur: convulsions or seizures, dizziness, rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, irritability, muscle twitching, restlessness, weakness, swelling about feet or lower legs, puffy eyelids. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact some your pharmacist or healthcare professional.
Electrolyte Solution Precautions: this solution should not be given when: there is an inability to drink (as at cases of shock), persistent vomiting is present, stool losses greater than two ounces per pound of body weight (100ml per kg) per hour--this is about 2 quarts (2 liters) per hour for 30 pound (14 kg) children, there is difficulty urinating, intestinal blockage is present. Call the doctor immediately when signs about dehydration present. These include: severe thirst, doughy skin, sunken eyes. Avoid other electrolyte-containing foods or liquids, such as fruit juices or foods with added salt, until treatment with this medicine is completed. Breast-fed infants should be given breast milk between doses about solution.
Electrolyte Solution medication interactions: Tell some your pharmacist or pharmacist if you are taking any another medication (including nonprescription), such as: home remedies for diarrhea or vomiting. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or healthcare professional approval.
Electrolyte Solution Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Electrolyte Solution special notes: Call physician if diarrhea continues past two days or if this should become worse during treatment. Soft foods such as rice cereal, bananas, cooked peas, cooked beans & potatoes should be eaten until the diarrhea stops and regular food & milk canbe taken again.
If you missed Electrolyte Solution dose: this solution is given on an as-needed basis. Follow the package directions.
Electrolyte Solution Storage: Store un-opened container at room temperature away from light, heat or moisture. do not store at bathroom. After using, replace cap, refrigerate (do not freeze) and use within 48 hours. don't re-use the container.
