Panic attacks that happen at night are very concerning. Being like a heart attack, they make you feel like you can't breath and can be scary. When you feel like your heart is beating faster and you are sweating a lot and can't breathe as good then you do feel like it is a heart attack. This is especially so when it happens at night.
Most people get panic attacks in their life but most do not have them at night while they are sleeping. Only ten percent of panic attacks happen in sleep. Many times a panic attack occurs at night because the person already has sleeping disorders and they can bring on a panic attack. For instance, if you have sleep apnea then you stop breathing for periods of time anyways. This can cause an already panicked person to really panic and have a full blown attack.
There are many things that you can do to try and prevent an attack from occuring. If you follow these tips then you will have a lower chance of having panic attacks in your sleep. One of the big things to do is to not have heavy meals before you go to bed. This can cause stress on your body because it is trying hard to digest a lot of food. Another thing to make sure that you do is not have the caffeine. Caffeine makes the heart pump faster which can bring on a panic attack even faster. If you are already stressed out then caffeine is not good for you anyways.
Before you go to be you should not watch TV. TV can cause the mind to think too much before you sleep. If you need help to fall asleep then listen to some nice music or read a good book. You won't have as much stress this way.
So remember that if you think you are a candidate for having a panic attack at night then you need to take some necessary precautions. Make sure that you don't cause your body to be in any more stress than necessary before you go to bed. Find something that relaxes you and you will hopefully fall asleep much easier.
