Article Category : Panic Attacks. [ 0 comments, post your review! ]

Panic attacks and the growing number of people having them is a cause of concern, and these attacks should be given proper attention. Though we say that panicking is some stressful conditions is quite normal, but panic attacks are different from normal panicking. These attacks not only affect a person’s behavior but also affect his/her work ability and his relations.

To understand the panic attack well, we must know what is it and the symptoms to identify a panic attack. Panic attack is a response to any event or situation, reflecting excessive fear or worry and anxiety. The duration of the attack may vary in each case from a few seconds till half an hour, depending upon the severity of the disorder as well as the situation. Some very common symptoms of panic attack are discomfort in breathing, headache, tightening of chest area, excessive sweating and so on.

Panic attacks may be initiated by various reasons. A lot of these panic attack triggers involve stressful situations and incidents.  Such situations increase stress level in an individual and the person finds it difficult to face and experiences panic attack on finding himself unable to cop.

The number of people, especially in America, having experienced a panic attack at some point in their lives, is very high. The people already having some sort of psychological disorder are more at risk of having panic attacks. Among other reason, agoraphobia is also a disorder which may cause frequent panic attacks in a person.

Agoraphobia is one such anxiety disorder in which a person feels extremely reluctant in going out of the house due to the hidden fear of getting humiliated by someone in front of others. He is gripped by the fear of embarrassment in public. Whenever such people come out of their houses, they feel stressed all the time and suffer a panic attack on encountering any odd situation. This happens because a person having agoraphobia thinks that he is being targeted and reacts abnormally.

Getting a panic attack on being exposed to the outside world is the most difficult problem of the people suffering from agoraphobia, due to their low moral and low self confidence. They prefer to remain inside to avoid a situation of their getting a panic attack and feel embarrassed in front of others in public. They feel very low and a sense of shame while moving out of the house.

The major problem with agoraphobics is that they are so scared of the outside world that they don’t want to take any medical help. The disorder is debilitating for the person in regard to his self confidence, work efficiency, his relations and so on. The good part of the problem is that the disorder can be treated successfully if the person agrees to the medical help and co operates with the doctor. The treatment for agoraphobia has a very high success rate and the patient can be fully recovered from the condition with its help. Once he is recovered from the agoraphobia disorder, he can be a normal part of the society.
