Stress and Panic Attacks: a correlation

Article Category : Panic Attacks. [ 0 comments, post your review! ]

In the fast paced world of today where we want everything to be done at a lightening speed makes us work like machines. We find ourselves unable to cop with the balance between work and family. This hectic lifestyle of ours results into stress and this stress further leads to various other problems panic attacks being one of them.

Many of us have become used to the hectic lifestyle that we have to follow, and have learned how to manage time, family and work, whereas there are some of us who are not able to adjust these things well and find themselves stressed out. This stress or worry further leads to various mental and other health related problems. The most important condition which is rising these days is panic attacks.

    What is Panic Attack?

A panic attack is a condition in which a person feels extremely distressed and feels anxiety and hopelessness. The time duration of a person having a panic attack varies from person to person. Some people may have it just for a few seconds, whereas some of them may have it for longer time. The symptoms of a panic attack are also similar to that of a heart attack. Therefore, most of the times it is mistaken for a heart attack by people and increases the anxiety and fear. The symptoms of panic attack are feeling short of breath, profuse sweating, having tingling sensation in toes and fingers, migraine, headache, fast heart beat etc.

Relation of stress with panic attack

Panic attack can be caused by a number of factors or triggers. Studies have shown that stress is probably the one common element amongst these triggers. The inability of an individual to be able to cope up with happenings and circumstances in their lives brings about stress, and when this stress reaches a heightened stage panic is a natural fallout or result.

Stress at its heightened stage manifests itself differently in different individuals.A person under extreme stress tends to feel overwhelmed and thereby develops the symptoms of anxiety and extreme distress. Extreme distress then leads to the next level which invariably is a panic attack. Scientifically speaking adrenalin is released in a persons body when his brain receives the designated signal when an individual is highly stressed. Adrenalin helps the body to cope with such a stressful situation by giving the individual the fight- or- flight feeling or the will to contest the panic or to find means and ways to avoid the situation. This release of Adrenalin results in the increase of palpitations of the heart and fast breathing and the symptoms of tightening of the chest is an indicator of a panic attack starting.

As the doctors say, reducing stress in ones life is the best way to prevent panic attacks from occurring in the future. Meditation is the most recommended way of reducing and overcoming stress as is regular physical exercise.Contol and reduction of stress would greatly reduce if not totally purge the onset of panic attacks.

The best way to deal with panic attacks and prevent them from occurring in the future is to reduce the amount of stress in your life.  Regular exercise and meditation have been known to greatly reduce stress levels among individuals.  Once you are able to properly cope with stress, the occurrence of a panic attack will be greatly reduced, if not eliminated altogether.
