    Hydrocortisone sodium succinate - injection

    (hi-dro-kort-ih-sown)

    common brand names: A-Hydrocort, Solu-Cortef

    Hydrocort Usage: Hydrocortisone sodium succinate is corticosteroid-type hormone used as supplement when body isn't producing enough of the natural hormone, cortisol. Hydrocortisone sodium succinate is also used to suppress (inhibit) immune system in order to treat conditions such as allergies, rejection about transplanted organs, or rheumatoid arthritis.

    How to use Hydrocort: Give this drug directly into vein (IV) or into muscle (IM), as directed by the doctor. the dosage and length about treatment depends on your medical condition and response to therapy. Follow all instructions for proper mixing and dilution with correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding the use of this tablet, consult your physician. Before using, cash it product visually for particles or discoloration. If ether is present, do not use the liquid. Use this tablet exactly as prescribed. don't increase youre dose, take it more frequently, or use it for longer period about clock than prescribed. Also, don't suddenly stop using this drug without you're doctor's approval. You may be switched to an oral corticosteroid when you able to take drugs by mouth.

    a Hydrocort side effects: Nausea or stomach upset may occur. If either about these effects persist or worsen, notify youre physician promptly. Tell youre healthcare professional immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: increased appetite, stomach pain, headache, increased thirst or urination, unusual weight loss or gain, mental/mood changes, trouble sleeping, reddening about the face or neck. Tell youre doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision problems, eye pain, seizures, changes in appearance of skin, problems with wounds healing, unusual bruising, unusual weakness, unusual menstrual periods, failure to grow (in children), excess hair growth, tendon or bone/joint pain. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate doctor attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

    Hydrocort Precautions: Tell your pharmacist youre medical history, especially of: any allergies (especially to corticosteroids such as prednisone), thyroid conditions (e.g., hyperthyroid, hypothyroid), bone loss (e.g., osteoporosis), stomach problems (e.g., ulcers, ulcerative colitis), heart problems (e.g., congestive heart failure), current infections (e.g., tuberculosis, fungal, parasitic infection), eye problems (e.g., herpes infection, cataracts, glaucoma), nerve problems (e.g., myasthenia gravis), bleeding problems (e.g., hypoprothrombinemia), liver problems, high blood pressure, seizures, diabetes, recent vaccinations, mental/mood problems, kidney problems. it medication can lower body's ability to fight an infection. Notify your pharmacist promptly if you develop any signs of an infection such as fever, chills, or sore throat. Also, contact some your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, change in vaginal discharge, or any another new symptoms. Avoid contact with person currently infected with chicken pox or the measles. Consult your healthcare professional immediately if you think you have been exposed to the chicken pox or measles virus. do not have immunizations/vaccinations with out consent of you're doctor & avoid contact with person who have recently received live vaccines (e.g., oral polio vaccine). this tablet is not recommended for use in premature infants. Caution is advised when prescribing or using it tablet in children since they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medication. preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or at liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during 1'st months of life (neonatal period). risk is greater with lower birth weight infants & is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sudden gasping, LBP, or a very slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to doctor immediately must they occur. If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treating neonates. Caution is advised when prescribing or using this drug in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to effects of drug. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare professional. It's not known if it medication passes into breast milk. Consult your pharmacist before breast-feeding.

    Hydrocort med interactions: Tell you're pharmacist of every prescription & nonprescription tablet you may use, especially: phenytoin, barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital, primidone), rifamycin antibiotics (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin), high-dose aspirin or aspirin-like drugs (e.g., salsalate, magnesium salicylate), neuromuscular blocking drugs (e.g., pancuronium, vecuronium), 'water pills' (e.g., potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone or triamterene), antifungal drugs (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), anticholinesterase medications (e.g., ambenonium, pyridostigmine), estrogen-containing drugs (e.g., birth control pills, estradiol) or 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin). this medication can affect the results about certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel & your physicians know you use this drug. don't start or stop any medicine without physician or pharmacist approval.

    a Hydrocort Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Hydrocort special notes: don't share this medication with others. Inform all your pharmacists (including dentists) that you use (or have used) this tablet. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects & response to treatment.

    If you missed Hydrocort dose: If you miss dose or dose is interrupted, contact you're doctor or pharmacist immediately to establish new dosing schedule.

    Hydrocort Storage: Store in room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. After mixing and dilution in correct IV fluids, the drug is stable at room temperature since up to 72 hours if protected from light Consult youre pharmacist for details. Discard any unused liquid.
