    Hydrocortisone sodium succinate - injection

    Solu Cortef Usage: Hydrocortisone sodium succinate is a corticosteroid-type hormone used as a supplement when the body isnt producing enough of the natural hormone, cortisol. Hydrocortisone sodium succinate is also used to suppress (inhibit) the immune system in order to treat conditions such as allergies, rejection of transplanted organs, or rheumatoid arthritis.

    How to use Solu Cortef: Give it drug directly into a vein (IV) or into a muscle (IM), as directed by the physician. dosage & length of treatment depends on your medical condition & response to therapy. Follow all instructions since proper mixing & dilution with correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding use of it medication, consult you're healthcare professional. Before using, money this product visually for particles or discoloration. If ether is present, don't use liquid. Use it medication exactly as prescribed. don't increase your dose, take this more frequently, or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed. Also, don't suddenly stop using this drug with out your doctor's approval. You may be switched to an oral corticosteroid when you are able to take drugs by mouth.

    Solu Cortef side effects: Nausea or stomach upset may occur. If either about these effects persist or worsen, notify your physician promptly. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: increased appetite, stomach pain, headache, increased thirst or urination, unusual weight loss or gain, mental/mood changes, trouble sleeping, reddening of the face or neck. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision problems, eye pain, seizures, changes in the appearance of skin, problems with wounds healing, unusual bruising, unusual weakness, unusual menstrual periods, failure to grow (in children), excess hair growth, tendon or bone/joint pain. An allergic reaction to it tablet is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or pharmacist.

    Solu Cortef Precautions: Tell youre physician your medical history, especially of: any allergies (especially to corticosteroids such as prednisone), thyroid conditions (e.g., hyperthyroid, hypothyroid), bone loss (e.g., osteoporosis), stomach problems (e.g., ulcers, ulcerative colitis), heart problems (e.g., congestive heart failure), current infections (e.g., tuberculosis, fungal, parasitic infection), eye problems (e.g., herpes infection, cataracts, glaucoma), nerve problems (e.g., myasthenia gravis), bleeding problems (e.g., hypoprothrombinemia), liver problems, high blood pressure, seizures, diabetes, recent vaccinations, mental/mood problems, kidney problems. this drug can lower body's ability to fight an infection. Notify your pharmacist promptly if you develop any signs about an infection such as fever, chills, or sore throat. Also, contact youre doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, change in vaginal discharge, or any other new symptoms. Avoid contact with people currently infected with chicken pox or measles. Consult youre physician immediately if you think you have been exposed to chicken pox or measles virus. do not have immunizations/vaccinations with-out the consent of your healthcare professional & avoid contact with human who have recently received live vaccines (e.g., oral polio vaccine). this pill isnt recommended since use at premature infants. Caution is advised when prescribing or using it pill in child for they may be more sensitive to effects of medication. a preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during 1'st months of life (neonatal period). risk is greater with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sudden gasping, hypotension, or very slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treating neonates. Caution is advised when prescribing or using this medication in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to effects of drug. this drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with youre doctor. it isnot known if this medication passes in to breast milk. Consult youre pharmacist before breast-feeding.

    Solu Cortef drug interactions: Tell your pharmacist of every prescription & nonprescription pill you may use, especially: phenytoin, barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital, primidone), rifamycin antibiotics (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin), high-dose aspirin or aspirin-like drugs (e.g., salsalate, magnesium salicylate), neuromuscular blocking medications (e.g., pancuronium, vecuronium), 'water pills' (e.g., potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone or triamterene), antifungal drugs (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), anticholinesterase drugs (e.g., ambenonium, pyridostigmine), estrogen-containing drugs (e.g., birth control tablets, estradiol) or 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin). this med can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel and your physicians know you use this pill. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or pharmacist approval.

    Solu Cortef Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Solu Cortef special notes: do not share this medication with others. Inform all your healthcare professionals (including dentists) that you use (or have used) this med. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects & response to treatment.

    If you missed Solu Cortef dose: If you miss dose or dose is interrupted, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately to establish new dosing schedule.

    Solu Cortef Storage: Store in room temperature between 68 & 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light & moisture. After mixing and dilution at correct IV fluids, the medication is stable in room temperature for up to 72 hours if protected from light Consult your pharmacist since details. Discard any unused liquid.
