Oxazepam Usage: Oxazepam is used to treat anxiety and acute alcohol withdrawal. this medication belongs to a class of pills called benzodiazepines which act on brain and nerves (central nervous system) to produce calming effect. it works by enhancing effects of a certain natural chemical in body (GABA).
How to use Oxazepam: Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor. dosage is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. Use it drug exactly as prescribed. do not increase youre dose, take it more frequently or use this for longer period of time than prescribed because it medication can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using this drug without some your doctor's approval. few conditions may become worse when drug is abruptly stopped. your dose may need to be gradually decreased to avoid side effects such as seizures. Oxazepam Precautions: Before using it med, tell your physician or healthcare professional your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, lung/breathing problems (e.g., COPD, sleep apnea), drug or alcohol abuse, any allergies (especially to tartrazine yellow dye or aspirin). this med may make you dizzy, drowsy or cause blurred vision; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this drug at elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of medication, especially drowsiness effect. this medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to potential for fetal harm. Oxazepam drug interactions: it med should not be used with the following meds because very serious interactions may occur: sodium oxybate. If you are currently using any of these drugs, tell some your doctor or pharmacist before starting oxazepam. Before using this tablet, tell your physician or healthcare professional of all prescription & nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: clozapine, digoxin, kava, levodopa. Tell your physician or healthcare professional if you also take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine since sleep (e.g., sedatives), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), tranquilizers. check labels on all youre medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they can contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask you're physician about the safe use of those products. Smoking can decrease effectiveness of this med (through liver enzyme induction). Tell your physician if you smoke or if you have recently stopped smoking because you're dose may need to be adjusted. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or doctor approval.
Oxazepam Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe drowsiness, slowed/reduced reflexes, slowed breathing, fainting, loss of consciousness.
Oxazepam special notes: do not share this med with others. it is against law. If it drug is used for an extended period about time, laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver function tests, complete blood count) may be performed periodically to check for side effects. If you missed Oxazepam dose: If you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If It's near the time of following dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
