    Amiodarone - injection

    common brand names: Cordarone

    Warning: this pill must be used in hospital setting under close medical supervision. response may not be seen until up to 3 weeks after the medication is started. Amiodarone stays in your body for weeks or months, even after you are no longer taking it. Therefore caution is advised not only during treatment, but for several months after amiodarone treatment has stopped, if you are taking any pills that may interact with this (see medication Interactions section). Consult your pharmacist or pharmacist for more information. Infrequently, severe (sometimes fatal) lung or liver problems have occurred at patients using this drug. Tell youre physician immediately if you experience any of these serious side effects: cough, fever, chills, chest pain, difficult or painful breathing, severe stomach pain, fatigue, yellowing eyes or skin, or dark urine. like other medications used to treat irregular heartbeats, this drug can infrequently make an irregular heartbeat worse. Due to the lingering amount of it med in your body, heartbeat problems may occur even months after it drug has been stopped. this drug can cause serious vision changes such as seeing halos & blurred vision. Very rarely, cases of permanent blindness have been reported. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop any vision changes.

    Cordarone I V Usage: this drug is used to treat irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and to maintain normal heart rate.

    How to use Cordarone I V: this medication is given by injection into vein (IV) as directed by your healthcare professional. Follow all instructions for proper mixing & dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding the use about this drug, consult youre pharmacist. Before using, dollars this product visually for particles or discoloration. If ether is present, do not use the liquid. don't exceed the recommended rate of infusion. Infusing amiodarone too fast may result in serious side effects such as severe lowering of blood pressure. you're dosage & infusion rate may be adjusted depending upon your medical condition & response to therapy. chemical (DEHP) found in plastic IV tubing may harm young child (male reproductive system effects). Amiodarone can cause this chemical to leach out of the tubing. Therefore, caution is advised when using this medication in child. Special administration guidelines should be followed (e.g., multiple bolus dosing) to minimize exposure to DEHP. Consult the doctor since more info.

    Cordarone I V side effects: Also watch Warning section. Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. this drug, when used in combination with simvastatin, may infrequently cause muscle damage (which can rarely lead to very serious condition called rhabdomyolysis). Tell your healthcare professional immediately if you develop: muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness). Tell you're physician immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: severe dizziness, slowed heartbeat, uncontrolled shaking/tremor, unexplained weight gain, swelling of the hands or feet, irregular pulse, vision changes (e.g., seeing halos, blurred vision, loss of vision - see Warnings), easy bruising/bleeding, persistent sore throat. it medication can cause skin reactions similar to serious sunburn. Infrequently with long-term amiodarone treatment, you may develop blue-gray discoloring of skin, particularly about face & hands. it effect is not harmful & usually reverses, sometimes incompletely, after the drug is stopped. Avoiding prolonged sun exposure may help to prevent this effect. watch also Precautions. in unlikely episode you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immeditial medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

    Cordarone I V Precautions: this medication must not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult some your doctor or physician if you have: cardiogenic shock, certain types of irregular heartbeats or heart rhythms (e.g., severe sinus node dysfunction resulting in marked sinus bradycardia, second or third degree atrioventricular block, bradycardia with associated syncope except when pacemaker is used). Before using it tablet, tell your pharmacist or physician your medical history, especially of: liver disease, heart problems (e.g., congestive heart failure, low blood pressure), lung diseases, thyroid problems, upcoming major surgery, electrolyte problems such as low potassium or low magnesium, any allergies. this drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. this drug may make you more sensitive to sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Use sunscreen & wear protective clothing when outdoors. Caution is advised when using this drug in elderly because they may be more sensitive to effects about the drug, especially slowing about the heartbeat. preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during first months of life (neonatal period). the risk is greater with lower birth weight infants & is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sudden gasping, LBP, or very slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to healthcare professional immediately should they occur. If possible, preservative-free product should be used when treating neonates. it medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to potential for fetal harm. Consult your doctor for more following details. Amiodarone passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug.

    Cordarone I V drug interactions: it drug shouldnot be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: agalsidase beta, dofetilide, certain HIV protease inhibitors (nelfinavir, ritonavir), quinupristin/dalfopristin. If you currently using any of these medications, tell you're doctor or doctor before starting amiodarone. other drugs besides amiodarone which may affect heart rhythm (QTc prolongation in EKG) include flecainide, disopyramide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, & sparfloxacin among others. QTc prolongation can infrequently result in serious, sometimes fatal, irregular heartbeats. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for following information. Ask since instructions about whether you need to stop any other QTc-prolonging tablets you may be using in order to minimize the risk of it effect. Before using this drug, tell your pharmacist or doctor of all prescription & nonprescription products you may use, especially about: 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), cimetidine, cyclosporine, digoxin, fentanyl, local & general anesthesia, heart drugs (e.g., diltiazem, verapamil, beta-blockers such as propranolol), other HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., amprenavir, indinavir), methotrexate, phenytoin, rifampin, 'statins' (e.g., lovastatin, simvastatin), St. John's wort. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or doctor approval.

    Cordarone I V Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include weakness, severe dizziness, unusually slow heartbeat, or fainting.

    Cordarone I V special notes: do not share it pill with others. your pharmacist may want you to check your pulse rate every day while you take this drug. Learn how to monitor your pulse. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, EKG, chest x-rays, lung tests, liver tests, thyroid tests, eye exams) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or money for side effects.     If you missed Cordarone I V dose: If you miss dose, contact doctor immediately. do not increase rate of infusion above recommended rate to catch up.

    Cordarone I V Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. do not store in bathroom. Keep every medicines away from kid & pets.
