    Tocainide - oral

    (toe-cane-ide)

    common brand names: Tonocard

    Warning: this tablet has caused severe, even fatal, lung problems (e.g., pulmonary fibrosis), & blood disorders (e.g., agranulocytosis, bone marrow depression). Lung problems have occurred more often in severely sick people. Blood disorders many times appear during first 12 weeks of use. Tell your pharmacist if you already have a blood disorder or bone marrow problem. Stop using this medication & notify your physician immediately if you develop signs of an infection (e.g., fever, chills, sore throat, mouth sores), simple bruising or bleeding, coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing. your healthcare professional will decide if you require other treatment. your physician will monitor you & test your blood counts for the 1st 3 months about therapy and often thereafter.

    Tonocard Usage: this drug is used to treat irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) & maintain normal heart rate.

    How to use Tonocard: this is best taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, but may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. it pill works best when there is constant level of the tablet in you're body. To do this, take each dose exactly as prescribed at evenly spaced intervals throughout day & night. Try to take each dose at same time each day. do not stop taking this drug or change dose with out 1st consulting you're pharmacist. few conditions may become worse when med is suddenly stopped.

    Tonocard side effects: Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache, sweating, blurred vision, numbness or tingling of the fingers or toes, confusion or nervousness may occur as youre body adjusts to tablet. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your physician. Notify your physician if you develop: chest pain, rapid heartbeat, simple bruising or bleeding, rash, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties, coughing, persistent sore throat, fever. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre physician or pharmacist.

    Tonocard Precautions: Be sure your doctor or dentist knows your complete medical history, especially of: scheduled medical or dental procedures. Because this drug can cause blurred vision or dizziness in several people, make sure you know how you react to this drug before driving or operating machinery. this tablet should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. this drug passes into breast milk & may have undesirable effects on nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Tonocard drug interactions: Inform your doctor of every medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: beta- blockers (e.g., propranolol), cimetidine, rifampin, other drugs used for heart problems. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.

    Tonocard Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose include vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, & seizures.

    Tonocard special notes: your physician may want you to USD youre pulse rate all day while you take this pill. Learn how to monitor your pulse. To evaluate effectiveness of this medication, youre doctor may periodically take a blood sample to measure amount of the drug in your body. Tests such as chest x-ray, eye exams or electrocardiogram (EKG) may also be done. Keep every appointments with your doctor.

    If you missed Tonocard dose: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Tonocard Storage: Store in a tightly closed container in room temperature, away from moisture and sunlight.

    Medical alert: youre condition can cause complications in medical emergency.
