Bretylium tosylate - injection

Bretylium Tosylate Usage: this med is used to control heart rate & rhythm (e.g., ventricular fibrillation) on short-term basis.
How to use Bretylium Tosylate: it medication is given either into vein (IV) or into muscle (IM), as directed by the doctor. When given into a muscle, the site of injection is changed with each injection to minimize side effects. this med is generally given with the patient lying down in order to minimize side effects. Dosage is based on the patient's medical condition & response to drug. Follow all directions for proper mixing & dilution with certain IV fluids. Consult the pharmacist. this drug should be checked visually since particles or discoloration before use. If present, do not use liquid.
Bretylium Tosylate side effects: Dizziness, nausea, vomiting or pain/redness at the injection site may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify healthcare professional. Very unlikely but report promptly: slow or irregular heartbeat, fainting, headache, chest pain, change at amount of urine, rash, mental/mood changes, fever, sweating, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Bretylium Tosylate Precautions: Tell healthcare professional the patient's medical history, including: any allergies, kidney disease, heart disease, blocked blood vessels (aortic stenosis), lung problems (pulmonary hypertension). To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness, the patient must remain lying down or, if necessary, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. Caution is advised when using it drug in elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of medication. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with the pharmacist. it is not known whether this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult the doctor before breast-feeding.
Bretylium Tosylate drug interactions: Tell the doctor of every nonprescription & prescription drug the patient uses, especially of: digoxin, catecholamines (e.g., dopamine or norepinephrine), other heart rhythm drugs (e.g., quinidine, procainamide, propranolol). don't start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or pharmacist approval.
Bretylium Tosylate Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Bretylium Tosylate special notes: don't share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests will be performed to monitor for side effects & response to treatment.
If you missed Bretylium Tosylate dose: Not applicable.
Bretylium Tosylate Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light & moisture. do not freeze. After mixing and dilution in IV fluids (consult the pharmacist for details), this med is stable at room temperature for 48 hours or when refrigerated at 39 degrees F(4 degrees C) for 7 days. Discard any unused liquid.
