Refludan Usage: Lepirudin is 'blood thinner' (anticoagulant) used to treat patients who have developed reaction to another type of anticoagulant (patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia). It's also used along with antiplatelet therapy (e.g., aspirin) to treat worsening angina/chest pain and certain types of heart attacks (Acute Coronary Syndrome-ACS).
How to use Refludan: Follow all instructions for proper mixing, dilution with the correct IV fluids, and monitoring about treatment (e.g., aPTT monitoring). If you have any questions regarding use of it med, consult your healthcare professional Give initial bolus dose of this medication by vein (IV) over 15 to 20 seconds followed by continuous IV infusion mixed at a saline (NS) or dextrose-based (D5W) solution as directed by your doctor. dosage and length of treatment is based on your weight, medical condition, & response to therapy. Before using, check it product visually for particles or discoloration. If ether is present, do not use the liquid. Learn how to store & discard needles & medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist.
Refludan side effects: Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, discomfort) may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your physician. Tell you're doctor immediately if any about these serious side effects occur: easy bruising or bleeding, pink or red-colored urine, black or bloody stool, coffee-ground vomit, one-sided weakness, vision problems, nausea/vomiting, confusion, slurred speech. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fever, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or doctor.
Refludan Precautions: Tell you're physician your medical history, especially of: kidney or liver problems, recent surgery/major medical procedures or biopsies, bleeding problems (e.g., clotting difficulty; any stomach, eye, brain, or lung bleeding), stroke, heart infections (bacterial endocarditis), HBP (hypertension), any allergies (especially to hirudins). Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects about drug. it medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with you're doctor. it is not known whether it drug passes at to breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Refludan drug interactions: Tell some your healthcare professional of every prescription & nonprescription drug you may use, especially: other 'blood- thinning' drugs (e.g., aspirin, warfarin, or thrombolytics such as tPA or streptokinase) do not start or stop any medicine without physician or healthcare professional approval.
Refludan Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include: severe bleeding.
Refludan special notes: do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., PTT) may be performed to monitor your progress.
If you missed Refludan dose: If you miss dose or you're dose is interrupted, contact some your doctor immediately to establish a new dosing schedule.
Refludan Storage: Store unmixed powder/vials at room temperature or at refrigerator between 36 & 77 degrees F (2 and 25 degrees C). one time mixed, medication should be used immediately & is stable throughout the clock of infusion (24 hours). Discard any unused portion of vials.
