Warning: sometimes, serious (possibly fatal) liver problems have occurred in patients using it med. child using this med who are under age of 2 years are at higher risk to experience liver problems, especially if they also have a severe seizure disorder along with mental retardation, using more than one seizure control drug, have body process (metabolic) problems or have brain disorders. If used in these patients, this drug shouldn't be used with additional seizure control medications. Early signs of liver problems include loss of seizure control, vomiting, unusual tiredness/weakness, loss of appetite, yellowing eyes/skin, or swelling of the face. Contact your healthcare professional promptly if you develop any about these symptoms. Liver tests should be run before & during use about the med. rarely, severe (possibly fatal) pancreatitis (pancreas inflammation) has occurred during use of this pill. it may progress quickly & may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop any of these symptoms. rarely, severe (possibly fatal) encephalopathy (decreased mental status) has occurred during use about it pill. this has occurred at patients with specific metabolic disorder (urea cycle disorder). Symptoms may include unusual weakness, vomiting, or mental changes. Contact your healthcare professional promptly if you develop any of these symptoms. it tablet can cause birth defects. Consult youre pharmacist about use about this medication during pregnancy.

Valproic Acid Usage: this med is used to treat seizure disorders and to prevent migraine headaches.
How to use Valproic Acid: Take it medication exactly as prescribed. Try to take it at same time each day. May take this with food to prevent stomach upset. Measure syrup with specially marked measuring spoon available from youre doctor. syrup may be mixed with any other non-carbonated liquid or added to food. do not stop taking it medication with out consulting youre physician.
Valproic Acid side effects: Mild stomach pain, loss of appetite, change in menstrual periods, diarrhea, mild hair loss, unsteadiness, dizziness, drowsiness, rash or headache might occur. If any of these effects continue or bothersome, inform your physician. Very unlikely but report: yellowing eye/skin, blurred or double vision, severe stomach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: unusual weakness, vomiting, mood or mental changes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre pharmacist or pharmacist.
Valproic Acid Precautions: Before you take valproate, tell your doctor if you have: bleeding disorder, a history of brain disorder, allergies (especially drug allergies). this drug isn't recommended for use if you have the following medical conditions: liver disease, pancreatitis, certain metabolic disorder (urea cycle disorder). Use caution driving motor vehicles or performing tasks that require alertness. Limit youre consumption of alcoholic beverages. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the pharmacist that you take valproate. Use with extreme caution in child under 2 years old as potential for serious liver problems exists. drug isnot recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your physician since details. Valproate passes into breast milk though effect on nursing infant is unknown. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Valproic Acid drug interactions: Be sure to tell some your doctor about every over-the-counter or prescription drugs you taking, especially of: other medication since seizures (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, ethosuximide, clonazepam), anticoagulants ('blood thinners'), aspirin, chlorpromazine, cimetidine, mefloquine, drugs used for colds or allergies (antihistamines), sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), sedatives, tranquilizers. this drug may alter certain laboratory test results (e.g., urine ketones). Consult your healthcare professional or pharmacist. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Valproic Acid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include deep sleep, irregular heartbeat, and loss of consciousness.
Valproic Acid special notes: It's recommended to wear or carry drug identification indicating you taking this drug. Lab tests may be done, especially at 1st few months to check if drug is working properly. don't allow anyone else to take this medication.
If you missed Valproic Acid dose: If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near time for following dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Valproic Acid Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. don't store at bathroom.
Medical alert: your condition can cause complications in a medical emergency.
