    Valproic acid - oral capsule

    Warning: rarely, serious (possibly fatal) liver problems have occurred in patients using this med. kid using this medication who are under the age of 2 years are at higher risk to experience liver problems, especially if they also have a severe seizure disorder along with mental retardation; are using more than one seizure control drug; have body process (metabolic) problems or have brain disorders. If used in these patients, this drug must not be used with additional seizure control drugs. Early signs of liver problems include loss of seizure control, vomiting, unusual tiredness/weakness, loss about appetite, yellowing eyes/skin, or swelling of face. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop any of these symptoms. Liver tests should be run before & during use of medication. rarely, severe (possibly fatal) pancreatitis (pancreas inflammation) has occurred during use of it medication. this may progress quickly & may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, & loss of appetite. Contact your physician promptly if you develop any about these symptoms. rarely, severe (possibly fatal) encephalopathy (decreased mental status) has occurred during use of this medication. this has occurred in patients with a specific metabolic disorder (urea cycle disorder). Symptoms may include unusual weakness, vomiting, or mental changes. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop any of these symptoms. this drug may cause birth defects. Consult your healthcare professional about use of this drug during pregnancy.

    Valproic Acid Usage: Valproic acid is used for seizure disorders, to prevent migraine headaches, and for certain emotional conditions (manic phase of bipolar disorder).

    How to use Valproic Acid: May be taken with food if stomach upset occurs. Capsules should be swallowed whole. this pill must be taken as prescribed. do not stop taking this drug suddenly with-out consulting youre healthcare professional as seizures may occur. it is important to take every doses on clock to keep level about drug in your blood constant. Take doses at evenly spaced intervals throughout day and night.

    Valproic Acid side effects: Mild stomach pain, loss of appetite, change in menstrual periods, diarrhea, mild hair loss, unsteadiness, dizziness, drowsiness, rash or headache might occur. If any of these effects continue or are bothersome, inform you're pharmacist. Very unlikely but report: yellowing eyes/skin, blurred or double vision, severe stomach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising. Tell your physician immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: unusual weakness, vomiting, mood or mental changes. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

    Valproic Acid Precautions: Before you take valproic acid, tell you're doctor if you have: bleeding disorder, history of brain disorder, any allergies. this medication is not recommended since use if you have next medical conditions: liver disease, pancreatitis, certain metabolic disorder (urea cycle disorder). Use caution driving motor vehicles or performing tasks that require alertness. Limit youre consumption about alcoholic beverages. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the pharmacist that you take valproic acid. this drug may interfere with urine ketone testing and give false positive results. If very high sugar readings (e.g., over 300) occurring, ketones may be in your urine. Contact some your pharmacist or pharmacist for further advice. Use with extreme caution at children under 2 years old as the potential for serious liver problems exist. the medication isnot recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult you're doctor before taking it drug. Valproic acid is excreted in to people breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Valproic Acid medication interactions: Be sure to tell you're doctor of every over-the-counter or prescription drugs you taking, especially: other medication for seizures (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, ethosuximide, clonazepam), anticoagulants ('blood thinners'), aspirin, chlorpromazine, cimetidine, mefloquine, meds used for colds or allergies (antihistamines), sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), sedatives, tranquilizers. this drug may alter certain laboratory test results (e.g., urine ketones). Consult your doctor or physician. do not start or stop any medicine with-out physician or pharmacist approval.

    Valproic Acid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact you're local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include deep sleep, irregular heartbeat, and loss of consciousness.

    Valproic Acid special notes: It's recommended to wear or carry drug identification indicating you are taking this drug. Lab tests may be done, especially in the 1'st some months to cash if the medication is working properly. do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

    If you missed Valproic Acid dose: If you miss dose & youre dosing schedule is 1 dose daily, take missed dose as soon as remembered. If you don't remember until the following day, skip the missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. If you take 2 or more doses per day and you remember within 6 hours of the missed dose, take it immediately. then take the remainder of the doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. don't 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

    Valproic Acid Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. don't store in the bathroom.

    Medical alert: you're condition can cause complications in medical emergency.
