Neurontin Usage: this medication is taken with other medications to help control seizure disorders. Gabapentin is also used to decrease nerve pain associated with herpes zoster infection.
Neurontin can be used also for: Gabapentin may also be used to treat pain due to abnormal nerve stimulation (neuropathic pain).
How to use Neurontin: Take it medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. During 1st few days your healthcare professional may gradually increase your dose to allow some your body to adjust to medication. To minimize side effects, take the very first dose at bedtime. for best effects, take this med at evenly spaced times throughout day and night. this will ensure a constant level of medication in youre body. do not take this more often or increase your dose with-out consulting you're doctor. your condition will not improve any faster but risk of serious side effects may be increased. do not stop taking this drug suddenly since seizures may reoccur. your dose should be gradually reduced over time.
Neurontin side effects: this drug is usually well tolerated. Drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, fatigue or nausea may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your healthcare professional. Unlikely to occur but report promptly: mental or mood changes, tingling or numbness of hands or feet, swelling of ankles, vision problems, fever, unusual bleeding. Very unlikely to occur but report promptly: fainting, difficulty moving, stiffness, uncontrolled movements, stomach or abdominal pain, leg pain, chest pain, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Neurontin Precautions: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially about: kidney disease, medication allergies. Use caution operating machinery or engaging in activities that require alertness. Limit alcohol intake as it may intensify dizziness/drowsiness effect of this drug. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your doctor. Gabapentin passes in to breast milk. Because the effects about this drug on nursing infant not known, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Neurontin medication interactions: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription med you use, especially of: other medication for seizures, antacids. Because antacids may interfere with the absorption of it med, It's best to take gabapentin at least two hours after taking an antacid. do not take them at same time. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or physician approval.
Neurontin Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Neurontin special notes: Laboratory tests may be done periodically while taking it medication to monitor the effects. watch your pharmacist regularly.
If you missed Neurontin dose: Try to take each dose at scheduled time. If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take this if It's near the time for next dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume you're usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Neurontin Storage: Store it drug at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat & light don't store in the bathroom. Keep this & all medications out of the reach of children. oral solution form of this drug must be refrigerated between 36-46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C).
