Mesnex Usage: Mesna is used along with ifosfamide or cyclophosphamide (anticancer medications) to protect against bladder condition called hemorrhagic cystitis.
How to use Mesnex: this drug is administered by injection at to vein by health care professional. it must be given along with each ifosfamide dose & at 4 & 8 hours after each ifosfamide dose. Drink at least quart (4 cups) of liquid each day while taking this medication, unless directed otherwise by your healthcare professional.
Mesnex side effects: Headache, injection site reactions, flushing, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bad taste in mouth, loss of appetite, drowsiness, or coughing may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or physician promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: pink or red urine, fever, throat swelling, flu-like symptoms, arm or leg pain. An allergic reaction to this med is unlikely, but seek immeditial medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Mesnex Precautions: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially about: other illnesses, allergies. this drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. a preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during first months of life (neonatal period). the risk is greater with lower birth weight infants & is greater with increased amounts about benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sudden gasping, hypotension, or a very slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, preservative-free product should be used when treating neonates. Before using this medication, tell youre healthcare professional if you pregnant. Its not known if mesna passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare professional before breast-feeding.
Mesnex medication interactions: Tell your physician or physician of every prescription & nonprescription medications you may use. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or healthcare professional approval.
Mesnex Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Mesnex special notes: it medication does not prevent every side effects of ifosfamide. It's useful only at protecting against hemorrhagic cystitis; however, Its not effective in all patients.
If you missed Mesnex dose: It's important that each dose be used as scheduled. If you miss dose, contact your healthcare professional who will help establish new dose schedule. don't double dose to catch up.
Mesnex Storage: After preparation, this medication is stable for 24 hours at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Before preparation, store the vials in room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C).
