Aloprim Usage: Allopurinol is used to treat high levels of uric acid in your body. Uric acid can cause gout. it injection is usually given to people with cancer day or two before receiving chemotherapy. Chemotherapy kills cancer cells and these dead cells can cause very high levels of uric acid in some your body (tumor lysis syndrome).
How to use Aloprim: Follow all directions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have any questions regarding the use of this medication, consult your pharmacist. Give this drug by vein (IV) over approximately 30 minutes in saline (NS) or dextrose (D5W) solution as directed by youre doctor. the dosage & schedule is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Drink plenty of water when using this medication. don't mix this medication solution with any other IV fluids or medications. Consult your pharmacist for more information. it drug should be given 24 to 48 hours before the start of your cancer chemotherapy treatment. Consult your pharmacist. Before using, cash this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, don't use liquid. Learn how to store and discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist.
Aloprim side effects: Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and/or redness/swelling at injection site may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell you're doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: change in amount of urine, skin rash, seizures, joint pain, weight loss, loss of appetite. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: stomach pain, yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual tiredness, fever, black or bloody stool, red or pink urine, difficulty breathing, change at amount of urine. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but stop allopurinol IV & seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice any other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Aloprim Precautions: Tell your healthcare professional your medical history, especially about: kidney problems, liver problems, gout, any allergies. this drug may make you drowsy. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to effects of medication. this drug must be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with youre healthcare professional. this medication passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports about harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Aloprim drug interactions: Tell your healthcare professional of all prescription & nonprescription drug you may use, especially: azathioprine, mercaptopurine, 'blood thinners' (e.g., dicumarol, warfarin), penicillin antibiotics (e.g., ampicillin, amoxicillin), 'water pills' (e.g., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), chlorpropamide, cyclosporine, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, anti-cancer drugs. Tell youre physician if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety meds (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines or tricyclics), anti-seizure medications (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). cash label on every some your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they can contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. do not start or stop any medicine with out healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.
Aloprim Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Aloprim special notes: do not share it drug with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor youre progress. If you take the oral form of allopurinol, inform some your physician.
If you missed Aloprim dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time about the next dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't double dose to catch up.
Aloprim Storage: Store unmixed/powder vials at room temperature between 68 & 77 degrees F (20 & 25 degrees C). After mixing & further dilution with IV fluids, this product is stable for 10 hours at room temperature. do not refrigerate the mixed vial or diluted solution. Discard any unused portion of the vial.
