    Potassium acid phosphate - oral

    (poh-tass-ee-um acid foss-fate)

    common brand names: K-Phos Original

    K Phos Original Usage: this drug makes urine more acidic. It's used to prevent formation of calcium kidney stones & to reduce odor & skin irritation caused by high ammonia urine. it may also be used with certain antibiotics to make them more effective.

    How to use K Phos Original: for best results, soak pills at full glass about water for 3 to 5 minutes. Stir & drink. it is usually taken four times daily (after meals & at bedtime) with full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) about water. Take this tablet as prescribed. do not increase your dose or take this more often with-out your doctor's approval.

    K Phos Original side effects: Stomach upset, loose stools or headache may occur 1st some days as your body adjusts to medication. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fluid retention, convulsions, unusual weakness, mental confusion, dizziness, muscle cramps, rapid or irregular heart- beat, breathing trouble, tingling or numbness of the hands or feet. When this medication is first started, they're is a chance an old kidney stone may be passed. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact some your healthcare professional or pharmacist.

    K Phos Original Precautions: Tell your physician if you have: kidney problems, heart disease, liver disease, Addison's disease, high blood pressure, any allergies, sodium (salt)-restricted diet (or if you use salt substitute). this drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with you're doctor. for small amounts of it medication are found in breast milk, consult your physician before breast-feeding.

    K Phos Original pill interactions: Tell your pharmacist about any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: aspirin, water pills, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, antacids, steroids, high blood pressure drugs. Avoid antacids while taking this medication for they may prevent it is absorption. If necessary, space dosing of the med and the antacid as far apart as possible. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or physician approval.

    K Phos Original Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    K Phos Original special notes: Laboratory tests may be done periodically while taking this medication to monitor Its effectiveness & prevent side effects.

    If you missed K Phos Original dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if It's near the clock for next dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

    K Phos Original Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. don't store in bathroom.
