Gaviscon Usage: this is an antacid that works in stomach to neutralize and reduce acid. Antacids used to treat an upset stomach caused by heartburn, acid indigestion, or sour stomach; to treat peptic ulcer, hiatal hernia or another conditions caused by an excess of stomach acid; & to prevent ulcers or bleeding from ulcers.
How to use Gaviscon: Take it tablet as prescribed. Taking too much of an antacid can reverse the effects & more acid will be secreted. in certain conditions, however, it may be necessary to take antacid as frequently as every 1 to two hours. To be effective, chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing followed by full glass about water. Shake liquid forms well before pouring each dose. do not take any other med within 1 to two hours of taking an antacid. for antacids coat the stomach, they can prevent other medications from being absorbed properly if taken in same time.
Gaviscon side effects: this drug can cause nausea, loss of appetite, constipation or diarrhea, weakness, or headache. If these symptoms persist or become severe, notify your doctor. Notify you're healthcare professional if you notice black, tarry stools while taking this med. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or physician.
Gaviscon Precautions: Tell you're pharmacist you're medical history, especially of: kidney problems.
Gaviscon drug interactions: Tell your doctor of every prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially about: tetracycline, ferrous sulfate (iron), meds used for arthritis (e.g., aspirin, indomethacin), digoxin, isoniazid, pseudoephedrine, diazepam, methenamine, ketoconazole. do not start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or healthcare professional approval.
Gaviscon Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, fatigue, weakness, severe nausea & vomiting, loss about appetite, drowsiness, slow or shallow breathing, or loss of consciousness.
Gaviscon special notes: Refrigerating the liquid antacids may improve the taste. do not freeze. If you dislike taste of one antacid, talk to your doctor or physician about switching to similar product. liquid antacid forms work faster and are more effective than the another forms. However, chewable tablets may be more convenient.
If you missed Gaviscon dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Gaviscon Storage: Store tablets, capsules & powdered forms in room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in the bathroom. do not freeze liquid forms about this drug.
