Calan Usage: it medication is calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction and in controlling electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, verapamil relaxes and widens blood vessels & can normalize heartbeats. Verapamil is used to treat chest pain (angina), HBP or irregular heartbeats. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible problems related to use of short-acting calcium channel blockers.

How to use Calan: it tablet should be swallowed whole with full glass of water unless some your doctor directs you otherwise. this tablet should be taken as directed to prevent chest pain. this isn't effective if taken only when chest pain occurs. do not stop taking this med suddenly without some your doctor's permission. Chest pain can occur if the medication is stopped too fast. your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Calan side effects: this drug can cause dizziness & lightheadedness especially during 1'st several days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down since while, get up slowly to allow you're body to adjust and minimize dizziness. You may also experience weakness, fatigue, nausea, muscle cramps, headache, flushing or constipation. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to med. Inform your doctor if they become bothersome. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of hands or feet, irregular heartbeat, fever, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes & skin, dark urine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or healthcare professional.

Calan Precautions: Before using it drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems (e.g., heart rhythm disturbances, heart failure), liver or kidney disease, very low blood pressure, muscular dystrophy, brain tumors (cancer). Before heart surgery, tell your doctor you use this medicine. Verapamil prolongs & intensifies effects of alcohol in your system. Avoid (or very carefully limit) alcoholic beverages while using this medication. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. this drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. this pill is excreted into breast milk & a decision should be made whether to stop the medication or avoid breast-feeding. Consult your healthcare professional before breast-feeding.

Calan med interactions: Tell your physician of every prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: beta-blockers, intravenous (IV) calcium, cimetidine, cyclosporine, digoxin. Avoid any drugs that increase your heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine & phenylpropanolamine examples). These medications are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your healthcare professional instructs you otherwise. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or physician approval.

Calan Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; fainting; & loss about consciousness.

Calan special notes: Laboratory tests (e.g., liver function tests) should be performed periodically to monitor for side effects. don't share this drug with others.

If you missed Calan dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the following dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

Calan Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.

Medical alert: your condition may cause complications in medical emergency.

Side Effects : Loss of sleep- pannic attacks! vision problems(slight)headaches! few rapid heartbeats in night-sudden wake ups! ringing in right ear at times! flushing in face -ankles swelling alot! Review : I had taken verapamil generic before & had some bad side effects happen!Doc put me on this again? cant figure that out I was doing excellent for about 30days, than side effects happend creeping up on me, I had to take Maxzide diretic to stop swelling ankles & pannic attacks and to sleep, it helped but caused more problems!!! it is hard to adjust to medication! as pharmacist wants me to take larger dose! im already on big dose! & b.p is down!! I dont like ccb's in every! they never worked well for me. also have slight hair loss happening and large clock Gas bloating problems! with massive cramping in upper back & lower back at times! I think the Mfg companys should go back to the drawing boards -and take out chemicals or fillers they use, & find out whats causing these stupid side effects to happen -Test this 1st! oh yeah Bush screwed up FDA.. that could be the reason!? ?

I just read on line that this is a side effect from verapamil & any diretic you take! the doctor never told me it.. nor did he care when I told of problem! clearly im allergic to medication or can not take it! simple as that! ! anyone had this happen. I also get bloated belly conditions & pains! massive back cramping! It's not a good medication to take. im breathlesss at times! ! as this effects breathing!

I think the maxzide caused most to increase with verapamil together. also can not be in the direct sunlight and heat! you can get symptoms about heart failure! such as rapid heart beats! palps & shortness of breath gasping for air! ! lightheadness to the extream - I ended up in E.R due to it! only to find it was verapamil max causing the problem & heat!! heart was fine! darn meds! now I was put on coreg cr 20mg I cant wait to try it! ! wonder what bonus the pharmacist gets perscribing it! !

Made me feel 25 years younger & lowered my BP quite nicely and even warmed my feet toasty warm!BUT...then after 1 week I had annoying heart palpitations. didn't hurt me just annoying. So I give it 5* for good measure. I am still experimenting with it few (lowered dosage) & so forth, but alas, I still can get annoying palps from this. Still good drug though.

Review : since age about fifteen I had severe cluster headaches that often lasted for several days & tried many types of meds that did not help at all. doctor suggested I try Calan & this worked right away. I take one every morning. Whenever I have an occasional headache it is generally relieved after taking two regular aspirin.
