Side Effects : Initially, nothing major, except erectile dysfunction. However, after about a year on 25MG, I'm having difficulty concentrating & lately have become depressed and lethargic, which I attribute to atenolol.

Female, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : Supraventricular tachycardia.
Review : I took tenormin for 20 years. Went off twice because this stopped working. doctor switched me to another beta blockers for couple of months & then put me back on tenormin. it has now stopped working again & I am on sotalol. for some reason tenormin stops working for me after a few years. I go off it for a couple of months & then back on it again and it works great. However with my mother-in-law she became toxic to it and had to have pacemaker because of it.

Side Effects : Constantly escalating (over a period of years) acid stomach upon eating anything.
Migraine headaches ecsalating from 1 time year to once week.
    Sweating at back of head.
    Impotence.
    Leg pains.
Loss of balance & constant sleepiness.
Possible relation to onset about trigeminal neuralgia.
Review : this stuff should be taken off of market. With utter lack of responsiveness to side effects by the current crop about pharmacists, this drug can lead to a constantly escalating part of side effects treated as new diseases. this could potentially lead to death.

Side Effects : Stomache upset and terrible night leg cramps at 50 mg. & now I have heart palpatations at night which I never had before. I called my cardiologist and it took 5 days to call me back. He said it shouldn't cause these side effects. I think I will go elsewhere after reading all about the side effects about this drud. Male, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension.
Side Effects : Recently, I have been experiencing extreme lethargy, inability to concentrate for more than 20 minutes, & short term memory loss. I have also gained a considerable amount of weight--about 50 pounds--since I started the prescription, primarily, I think due to the lethargy. My dosage has been adjusted to control my BP, which this does.
Review : I am not sure if the problems due to my Atenolol prescription. But, I have always been atheletic & lethargy was never a problem. These problems are affecting my job performance & causing me lot of concern. I have attempted to compensate by drinking a lot about coffee, but that has created other problems. I am tenured college professor with doctorate degree & have worked in medical research in past.

Side Effects : Today is October 6, 2006. I am so sleepy all the time. I feel like I am different person & now very lazy. I have always exercised & been thin before starting this drug over 1 year ago. I have gained 27 pounds. I have never had a weight problem. I have always been vegetarian & stayed away from bad foods. I started out weighing 119 pounds. I am 5 feet three inches tall. other side effects are bad dreams, numbness in hands, blurred vision, lightheadedness. all these nothing compared to my weight gain. My healthcare professional says I see good & that my metabolism is probably just slowing. I am 26 years old. I do not believe that is cause about my weight gain!
Review : it has slowed my heart rate, which I needed & lowered my blood pressure somewhat. Yet I feel that obesity will be unhealthy if I stay on it med. the weight gain really depresses me! I would love to hear from others that have gained weight also on this med.

Male, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : Tachychardia and palpitations..
Side Effects : Extremely tired, low back pain, & a permanent thirsty feeling.
Review : the 25 mg I take every night before going to bed did work on eliminating possibility of the scaries tachycardias & arithmias. But as I have been feeling very tired, with permanent gastritis and with an intense back pain, I decided to research on web since comments. To my surprise I found lot of comments on tiredness & some on back pain & gastritis. I try to excercise (aquarobics) all day & it helps me lot eliminating back pain & giving me more energies. But I would like to find a drug replacing Tenormin with out the side effects. My case is also that I do not have the thyroid gland since 5 years ago and I also have to take Synthroid every morning. I know that not having thyroid gland might also cause tiredness symptoms.

Male, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : High or Low Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : Having arrythmia problems now after being on 100mg Atenolol for over 3 years. physician believes it isn't a side effect about the med... I am seriously doubting that now as I have read about it side effect at many patients. Also have memory issues & pain in legs & feet. Am of to watch for another pharmacist & get second opinion.
Review : Prescribed along with LOTREL 10mg/20 & average BP is 125/75 - pulse averages 60, but atrial fibrillation problems continue to haunt me from 5 mins to 3 days in duration.

Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High or Low Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : I stay tired.
I take 50 mg daily. Been on it for years. Losing wt & want to wean off. I have tried atenolol & normally have no prob. with generics, but 3 times now after about 3 days I had 'hypertensive crisis'/very dizzy also, so I have taken Name brand. I am going on lisinopril and atenolol(again) & thought if I take the name brand maybe 1/2 tab several days I wouldn't have those effects. Any suggestions please on how to wean off Tenormin
Review : Again, how do you 'wean off'?

Female, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
Side Effects : Extreme fatigue, lightheadedness after exercising and feeling about being about to pass out, tingling hands and feet
Review : AFIB episodes just as frequent but shorter duration (3-4 episodes per day especially after eating) - on 100 mg once day which I have changed to 50 mg twice day to try and avoid the overwhelming fatigue 3 -5 hours after full dose

    Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : HTN/Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia.
Side Effects : Colder hands & feet-but maybe that's just me.
Review : I have been on this drug over 20 yrs. it has helped with migraines, tachycardia, & occ. anxiety attack. it lowers heart rate but that is great for me. I rarely worry over longterm effects but this improves my life enough that I will just have to cross that bridge when I come to it. Everyone reacts differently to drugs-for me this one's a winner!

Female, Age : 20-30 years old , Reason : Mitral valve prolapse, tachycardia.
Side Effects : Lethargy, laziness, GI upsets at night, feeling spaced out/dizzy, short-term memory loss/confusion
Review : I started atenolol of two weeks ago (50mg/day taken before bed). it took me of week to get over laziness but now I get horrible stomach cramps & diarrhea at night. Within 1'st two days of taking it, I had to walk 2 floors of parking garage to find my car after work. I had absolutely no recollection of parking my car that morning. memory loss went away after the first week or so but I'd definitely take that over nightly stomach upset.

Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : Migraines.
Side Effects : Inability to think clearly, felt very tired but could not sleep through night. Joined a gym & I'm afraid I won't even be able to exercise right.
Review : On plus side - it made me feel about as calm as I ever have, even with anti-anxiety & anti-depressants. Haven't taken one Xanax since starting Atenolol 4 months ago.
