Risperdal Consta Usage: this medication is used to treat schizophrenia. it works by helping to restore balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters). Risperidone has not been shown to be safe or effective in elderly since treatment of delusions/hallucinations (psychosis) due to dementia.

How to use Risperdal Consta: Use this med exactly as prescribed. this tablet is given by intramuscular injection (IM) into the buttock by physician 1 time every 2 weeks. Injections should alternate between two buttocks. 1 time medication has been prepared, shake well before injecting. do not give by injection in to a vein (intravenously or IV). Injected risperidone may take up to three weeks to begin working. During this time, you should still take oral form of this tablet or other med for your condition by mouth. After three weeks, your pharmacist should have you stop taking the oral form, but follow the directions provided. dosage is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. Continue to take this medication as directed, even if you are feeling better & thinking more clearly.

Risperdal Consta side effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth, indigestion, constipation, runny nose, weight gain or loss, acne, dry skin, or redness/swelling/pain at injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact youre physician or pharmacist promptly. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: fainting, rapid/pounding/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, tremor, fever, muscle stiffness/spasms/twitching, sweating, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., tongue & facial muscles), drooling, difficulty swallowing, seizures. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: chest pain, one-sided weakness, numbness in face/arms/legs, sudden vision changes, slurred speech, confusion. Males: in unlikely episode you have painful, prolonged erection, stop using it medication & seek immediate medical attention or permanent problems could occur. it drug may in rare instances increase your blood level of a certain hormone (prolactin). in females, an increase in prolactin levels may result in unwanted breast milk, end of menstruation or difficulty becoming pregnant. in males, this may result in decreased sexual ability, inability to produce sperm, or enlarged breasts. If you develop any of these symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. this med may infrequently make youre blood sugar level rise, therefore causing or worsening diabetes. this high blood sugar can rarely cause serious (sometimes fatal) conditions such as diabetic coma. Tell some your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst & urination, or vision changes. If you already have diabetes, be sure to cash you're blood sugar level regularly. a serious allergic reaction to this med is unlikely, but seek immeditial medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or pharmacist.

Risperdal Consta Precautions: Before using this medication, tell youre physician or pharmacist your medical history, especially about: liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease (including heart failure, history of heart attack or ischemia, arrhythmias), low blood pressure, seizures, difficulty swallowing (especially in patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease), stroke (cerebrovascular disease), dehydration, breast cancer, diabetes, any allergies (especially drug allergies). it medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging at activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. this med can reduce sweating. Heatstroke may occur if you become overheated during exercise or other physical activity or in hot weather. Drink plenty of liquids to avoid risk of heatstroke. Caution is advised when using this drug in elderly because they may be more sensitive to It's effects especially the lowering of blood pressure. this drug must be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy or if planning pregnancy within 12 weeks following the last shot of this drug. Discuss the risks & benefits with your healthcare professional. this med passes into breast milk. Therefore, breast-feeding isn't recommended while using this drug & for at least 12 weeks following last shot of this tablet.

Risperdal Consta drug interactions: Before using this pill, tell youre doctor or physician of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine), HBP medicine (e.g., beta-blockers such as propranolol, 'water pills' or diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide, alpha-blockers such as doxazosin or prazosin), medications for Parkinson's disease (e.g., levodopa). Tell you're doctor of any other medicines which may affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation in the EKG) including dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, thioridazine, & sparfloxacin among others. QTc prolongation can infrequently result in serious, sometimes fatal, irregular heartbeats. Consult your doctor or doctor for details. Ask for instructions about whether you need to stop any other QTc-prolongating meds you may be using at order to minimize this effect. Tell your physician about any meds that cause drowsiness such as medicine since sleep (e.g., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). dollars every labels on every you're medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Risperdal Consta Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusual drowsiness; quick heartbeat; unusual muscle movements or stiffness about face, neck, or limbs; seizure; or loss of consciousness.

Risperdal Consta special notes: do not share this med with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests should be performed periodically to monitor you're progress or money for side effects. Consult youre pharmacist for more details.

If you missed Risperdal Consta dose: If you miss dose, contact youre healthcare professional or pharmacist to establish a new dosing schedule. don't double dose to catch up.

Risperdal Consta Storage: Refrigerate between 36 & 46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C) away from light. this medication may be stored at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) since up to 7 days. one time prepared, this drug must be injected immediately. If not injected within 2 minutes, the drug should be shaken again prior to injecting. After mixing, it product is stable at room temperature (below 77 degrees F; 25 degrees C) for 6 hours. Discard any unused portion about vial. Keep every medicines away from children & pets.
