Risperdal Usage: this med is used to treat schizophrenia. it works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters). Risperidone has not been shown to be safe or effective in the elderly for the treatment of delusions/hallucinations (psychosis) due to dementia.
How to use Risperdal: Take this medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. this drug may be taken with or without food. During 1st few days youre physician may gradually increase your dose to allow your body to adjust to medication. dosage is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. Continue to take it medication as directed, even if you feeling better & thinking more clearly. do not take it more many times or increase you're dose without consulting your physician. youre condition will not improve any faster but risk about serious side effects will be increased. do not stop taking this pill without your doctor's approval. Use it medication regularly in order to get most benefit from it. Remember to use it at same times each day.
Risperdal side effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, constipation, runny nose, weight gain, nervousness, acne, dry skin, difficulty concentrating, decreased sexual ability/desire or difficulty sleeping may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, contact you're doctor or healthcare professional promptly. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: fainting, rapid/pounding/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, fever, muscle stiffness/spasms/twitching, sweating, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., tongue & facial muscles), drooling, difficulty swallowing, seizures. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: chest pain, one-sided weakness, numbness at the face/arms/legs, sudden vision changes, slurred speech, confusion. it drug may in rare instances increase your blood level of certain hormone (prolactin). in females, an increase in prolactin levels may result at unwanted breast milk, the finish of menstruation or difficulty becoming pregnant. at males, it may result in decreased sexual ability, inability to produce sperm, or enlarged breasts. If you develop any of these symptoms, tell you're physician immediately. this drug may infrequently make your blood sugar level rise, therefore causing or worsening diabetes. this high blood sugar can sometimes cause serious (sometimes fatal) conditions such as diabetic coma. Tell your pharmacist immediately if you develop symptoms about high blood sugar, such as increased thirst & urination, or vision changes. If you already have diabetes, be sure to cash your blood sugar level regularly. Males: in unlikely part you have painful, prolonged erection, stop using this drug & seek immediate healthcare professional attention or permanent problems could occur. serious allergic reaction to it med is unlikely, but seek immediate doctor attention if it occurs. Symptoms of serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or healthcare professional.
Risperdal Precautions: Before using this medication, tell some your physician or pharmacist your medical history, especially about: liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease (including heart failure, history of heart attacks or ischemia, arrhythmias), low blood pressure, seizures, difficulty swallowing (especially in patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease), strokes (cerebrovascular disease), dehydration, breast cancer, diabetes, allergies (especially drug allergies). it drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. this medication can reduce sweating. Heatstroke may occur if you become overheated during exercise or other physical activity or in hot weather. Drink plenty of liquids to avoid risk about heatstroke. Caution is advised when using this drug at the elderly because they may be more sensitive to It's effects, especially lowering of blood pressure. this drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your physician. it drug is excreted in to breast milk. Breast-feeding isn't recommended while using this drug.
Risperdal drug interactions: Before using it medication, tell your doctor or doctor of every prescription & nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine), HBP medicine (e.g., beta-blockers such as propranolol, 'water pills' or diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide, alpha-blockers such as doxazosin or prazosin), medications for Parkinson's disease (e.g., levodopa). Tell your doctor of any other medicines which may affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation in EKG) include dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, thioridazine, and sparfloxacin among others. QTc prolongation can infrequently result in serious, rarely death, irregular heartbeats. Consult your healthcare professional or physician for details. Ask for instructions about whether you need to stop any another QTc-prolonging drugs you may be using in order to minimize risk of this effect. meds that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). dollars labels on every youre medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they can contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Risperdal Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusual drowsiness; quick heartbeat; fainting; unusual muscle movement or stiffness about face, neck, or limbs; tremor; seizures; and loss of consciousness.
Risperdal special notes: don't share this mediation with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your pharmacist for more details.
If you missed Risperdal dose: Try to take each dose at scheduled clock. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if this is near time for the next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Risperdal Storage: Store this medicine at room temperature away from light & moisture. Per the U.S. manufacturer, store US product between 59 & 77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C). Per Canadian manufacturer, store Canadian product between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C). If you use oral solution, do not allow it to freeze. do not store in bathroom. Keep all medicines away from kid and pets.
