    Lithium - oral

    (lith-ee-um)

    common brand names: Eskalith, Lithobid, Lithonate, Lithotabs

    Warning: Its very important to have right amount of lithium in youre body because too many it may lead to unwanted effects such as nausea, diarrhea, shaking about hands, dizziness, twitching, seizures, slurred speech, confusion, or increased urination. Notify your doctor promptly if these effects occur. the difference between the correct amount about lithium and too much of, is small. Therefore, It's important you be monitored closely.

    Lithobid Usage: this medication is used to treat manic-depressive disorder (bipolar disorder). it works to stabilize the mood & reduces extremes at behavior.

    How to use Lithobid: Take with food or milk or immediately after meals to prevent stomach upset. it medication works best if amount about drug in your body is kept at constant level. Do it by taking med at evenly spaced intervals throughout day and night. Drink 8-12 glasses about water or other fluid each day and maintain regular diet while taking it pill. do not change amount of salt at you're diet unless your pharmacist tells you to do so. this drug must be taken as prescribed. don't stop taking this drug suddenly without consulting your physician. few conditions may worsen if drug is suddenly stopped.

    Lithobid side effects: may cause drowsiness, tiredness, increased thirst, increased frequency about urination, weight gain, & trembling of hands. These should subside as your body adjusts to medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform some your healthcare professional. Notify your pharmacist if you develop: diarrhea, vomiting, fever, unsteady walking, fainting, confusion, slurred speech, rapid heart rate, severe trembling of hands. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre physician or pharmacist.

    Lithobid Precautions: Tell your doctor your entire medical history especially if you have: leukemia, heart disease, kidney disease or other urinary problems, epilepsy, parkinsonism, severe dehydration (symptoms include strong and persistent thirst), infections accompanied with high fever, any allergies. this tablet may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. this tablet isnt recommended for use during pregnancy especially during the 1-st 5 months. Discuss benefits & risks with your doctor. Lithium is excreted into breast milk. in most cases, breast-feeding isn't recommended while using this medication. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Lithobid tablet interactions: Tell your pharmacist about any over-the-counter or prescription drug you are taking including: anti- inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, SSRI antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine), another drugs for mental/mood conditions (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, thiothixene, or butyrophenones such as haloperidol), water pills. Maintain a normal diet with an average consumption of sodium. Avoid products that contain sodium (like sodium bicarbonate, an ingredient at certain antacids). do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or healthcare professional approval.

    Lithobid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include diarrhea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, lack of coordination, unusual drowsiness, seizures, tremor, & loss of consciousness.

    Lithobid special notes: it may take several weeks before the full effects of this medication noted. your doctor may perform lab tests periodically during treatment with this medication to money how It's working. do not change brands of this drug with out checking with you're doctor or pharmacist. Not all brands identical.

    If you missed Lithobid dose: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered unless following scheduled dose is within 2 hours (or six hours for slow-release forms). If so, skip the missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

    Lithobid Storage: Store at room temperature away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom. don't freeze liquid forms.
