Thiothixene Usage: this medication is used to treat symptoms of certain types about mental conditions.
How to use Thiothixene: Take with food or milk if stomach upset occurs, unless directed otherwise by your healthcare professional. the liquid concentrate form must be measured carefully & diluted with 4 ounces or more of water, milk, juice, or carbonated beverage. this can be mixed into applesauce or pudding. do not dilute in coffee, tea, or colas. med may lose effectiveness. Take immediately after diluting. this drug must be taken as prescribed. don't stop taking this drug suddenly with out consulting your physician. several conditions may worsen if medication is suddenly stopped.
Thiothixene side effects: may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Use caution performing tasks that require alertness. other side effects include stomach upset, increased appetite, headache, dry mouth, sweating, sleep disturbances or restlessness. These effects must subside as your body adjusts to drug. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, aching muscles and joints, unusual bleeding or bruising, tremors, skin rash, involuntary movements about face/tongue/or mouth (chewing movements, puckering, twitching tongue), yellowing skin or eyes. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or physician.
Thiothixene Precautions: Tell youre pharmacist if you have: blood diseases, history about alcoholism, glaucoma, heart or blood vessel disease, seizures, Parkinson's disease, an enlarged prostate, allergies (especially to phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine). this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare professional. Small amounts of thiothixene appear in breast milk. Consult with your pharmacist before breast-feeding. Use of alcohol & other sedative type medications can lead to extreme drowsiness. this drug can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear a sunscreen & protective clothing. it drug can reduce sweating making you more susceptible to heat stroke. Avoid strenuous work or exercise in hot weather. Avoid extreme cold also, since your body's temperature regulation is affected.
Thiothixene drug interactions: Tell your pharmacist what another drug you take (including nonprescription), especially of: methyldopa, guanethidine, another drugs used for mental conditions, amoxapine, metoclopramide, pemoline, promethazine, antidepressants, drugs that have sedating effects (antihistamines, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, narcotic pain med & muscle relaxants), quinidine, levodopa, guanadrel, reserpine. do not start or stop any medicine with-out physician or pharmacist approval.
Thiothixene Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include muscle twitching, weakness, tremor, increased salivation, fast heartbeat, fever, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, drowsiness, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
Thiothixene special notes: in treatment about mental or emotional conditions it may take up to 2 weeks since full effects about it medication to be noticed.
If you missed Thiothixene dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if It's almost time for the following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Thiothixene Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Avoid freezing.
