Geodon Usage: Ziprasidone for injection is used to treat the acute agitation symptoms about schizophrenia. it works by helping to restore balance of certain natural chemicals in brain (neurotransmitters).
How to use Geodon: it medication is given by intramuscular injection (IM) by a pharmacist. the dose and frequency of use will depend on your condition & response to therapy. Follow all directions for proper mixing. don't mix with other medications. Consult healthcare professional for details. Before using, money it tablet visually since particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. this medication is intended for short-term control of acute agitation symptoms. If you require continuous treatment for your condition, youre healthcare professional may switch you to an oral med.
Geodon side effects: Drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, headache, or pain at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your pharmacist or pharmacist promptly. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: muscle stiffness, muscle spasms or twitching, unusual decrease in amount of urine, change in vision. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular or unusually fast heartbeat (especially with fever & increased sweating), seizures, trouble swallowing, uncontrolled movements (especially of face or tongue). Males - in unlikely event you experience painful, prolonged erection, stop using it drug & seek immediate medical attention or permanent problems could occur. it medication may at rare instances increase your blood level of certain hormone (prolactin). in females, it rare increase in prolactin levels may result in unwanted breast milk production, stopping of your menstrual period, or difficulty in becoming pregnant. in males, this rare effect may result in decreased sexual ability, inability to produce sperm, or enlarged breasts. If you develop any of these symptoms, tell your physician immediately. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Geodon Precautions: this medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your healthcare professional or pharmacist if you have: heart problems (e.g., QTc prolongation, arrhythmias, recent heart attack, heart failure). Before using this med, tell your doctor or doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, liver problems, electrolyte imbalance (e.g., hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia), strokes (cerebrovascular disease), history of LBP (e.g., dehydration, hypovolemia), seizures, swallowing difficulty, Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, any allergies. this tablet may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of med, especially drowsiness and blood pressure-lowering effects. this drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your pharmacist. It's not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Because about the potential risk to infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended.
Geodon drug interactions: another tablets besides ziprasidone which may affect heart rhythm (QTc prolongation in EKG) include dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, & sparfloxacin among others. QTc prolongation can infrequently result in serious, rarely death, irregular heartbeats. Consult your healthcare professional or physician for details. Ask for instructions about whether you need to stop any other QTc-prolonging drugs you may be using in order to minimize the risk of this effect. Before using this pill, tell youre pharmacist or physician of every prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), anti-Parkinson drugs (e.g., pramipexole, ropinirole), certain blood pressure meds (e.g., beta-blockers such as metoprolol or propranolol, 'water pills' or diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide, alpha-blockers such as doxazosin or prazosin). Tell youre doctor or physician if you take medications that cause drowsiness, including: medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), other psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure medications (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). cash labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. do not start or stop any medicine with out doctor or pharmacist approval.
Geodon Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include slurring of speech, irregular or unusually quick heartbeat, or fainting.
Geodon special notes: do not share it medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., electrolytes) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or dollars for side effects. Consult youre doctor for more details.
If you missed Geodon dose: If you miss a dose, use this as soon as you remember. If it is near time of next dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Geodon Storage: Store dry powder vials in room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 & 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. After mixing medication, store vials away from light either at room temperature for up to 24 hours or in the refrigerator between 36 & 46 degrees F (2 & 8 degrees C) since up to 7 days. Keep every medicines away from children and pets.
