Haldol Usage: this medication is used to treat symptoms of certain types of mental conditions (e.g., schizophrenia), to control movements or effects of Tourette's syndrome or to control severe behavioral problems at children.
How to use Haldol: this medication is usually administered by intramuscular injection. this medication must be used as prescribed. do not stop using this drug suddenly without consulting your pharmacist. some conditions may worsen if medication is suddenly stopped.
Haldol side effects: can cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Use caution performing tasks that require alertness. other side effects include stomach upset, loss of appetite, headache, drooling, dry mouth, sweating, sleep disturbances or restlessness. These must subside as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: chest pain, aching muscles & joints, unusual bleeding or bruising, tremors, skin rash, involuntary movements about the face/ tongue/mouth (chewing movements, puckering, twitching tongue), difficulty breathing, dizziness. Tell your physician immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat. Use of alcohol and other sedative type meds can lead to extreme drowsiness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or physician.
Haldol Precautions: Before you take haloperidol, tell your physician if you have: Parkinson's disease, liver or kidney problems, heart disease, thyroid problems, blood vessel disease, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate (difficulty urinating), allergies, asthma/ emphysema/chronic bronchitis or other lung disease, a history of seizures. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, with a general anesthetic, tell youre physician that you are taking haloperidol. Limit your intake of alcohol as alcohol adds to drowsiness caused by haloperidol. Haloperidol may make your skin more sensitive to sun. Stay out of sun & wear protective clothing, sunscreen & sunglasses. Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold. Haloperidol reduces your ability to regulate body temperature which could result at overheating or severe chilling. do not swim in cold water. Tell your doctor if you pregnant or breast-feeding before taking this drug.
Haldol pill interactions: Tell your doctor about every prescription & nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: barbiturates, fluoxetine, carbamazepine, guanethidine, lithium, methyldopa, phenytoin, narcotic pain tablets (e.g., codeine), sedatives, sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, drowsiness- causing antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). Report other drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin, 'water pills' (diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide). Ask your physician or doctor for more details. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or physician approval.
Haldol Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include agitation, very dry mouth, unusual drowsiness or deep sleep, slow or shallow breathing, rapid or irregular pulse, & muscle weakness, rigidity, or tremor.

If you missed Haldol dose: If you miss a dose, contact your healthcare professional. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Haldol Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom. don't freeze.
