Macrobid Usage: Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections.
How to use Macrobid: Take with food or milk twice per day or as directed by your healthcare professional. Swallow whole for maximum effect. Antibiotics work best when amount of medicine in your body is kept at constant level. Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout day and night. Continue to take this med until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after few days. Stopping the med too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of infection.
Macrobid side effects: may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness and headache during the first some days as your body adjusts to the tablet. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor. can cause urine to turn yellow-brown in color. it isn't cause for concern and will disappear when the pill is stopped. Inform youre doctor if you develop: unusual weakness, tingling of hands or feet, chills, muscle aches, cough, yellowing of the eyes or skin. in the unlikely episode you have an allergic reaction to this medication, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, fever, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.
Macrobid Precautions: Before using this tablet, tell your doctor you're medical history including: allergies (drug allergies), kidney or liver problems, lung diseases, nerve disorders (peripheral neuropathy, anemia, diabetes, eye problems (optic neuritis). Use of this med for prolonged or repeated periods may result in secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). Avoid use about this medication in infants less then 1 month old. it pill should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. Avoid use at term (38 to 42 weeks of pregnancy) & during labor & delivery. it drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using nitrofurantion is not recommended. Consult your healthcare professional.
Macrobid drug interactions: Inform your pharmacist about all the medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), magnesium trisilicate-containing antacids. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Macrobid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include vomiting.
Macrobid special notes: this med has been prescribed for your current condition only. do not use it later for other infection or give it to someone else. a different medication may be necessary in those cases.
If you missed Macrobid dose: Take missed dose as soon as remembered unless It's almost time for the next dose. If it is almost time for next dose, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. don't double the dose to catch up.
Macrobid Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
