    Ritonavir capsule - oral

    Warning: Use about ritonavir with certain nonsedating antihistamines (e.g., astemizole, terfenadine), sedatives & tranquilizers (e.g., midazolam, triazolam), heart drugs (antiarrhythmics such as bepridil, flecainide, propafenone, quinidine), or ergot- containing medications may cause severe (sometimes fatal) side effects. Tell your pharmacist if you use any of these types of medications before using ritonavir.

    Norvir Usage: this medication belongs to a class about drugs called protease inhibitors & is used, ether alone or in combination with other drugs, to treat human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection.

    How to use Norvir: this medication is taken twice daily by mouth, with meals if possible. common side effect of nausea may be decreased by increasing the dose of ritonavir gradually over three days. in patients beginning combination therapy with another HIV medications, nausea can be decreased by starting second pill between 5 and 14 days after therapy with ritonavir has begun. do not increase or decrease you're dose unless told to do so by your physician. this is critical to take this drug every day exactly as prescribed. do not interrupt treatment unless directed to do so by your healthcare professional.

    Norvir side effects: most common side effects are weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, altered taste, stomach pain & numbness or tingling about mouth, hands or feet. Less common side effects include blurred vision, dizziness, headache, loss of coordination, muscle or joint pain & drowsiness. Inform your physician if these must persist or worsen. Inform your physician immediately if you experience: chills, rash, rapid heart rate, increased urination, unusual thirst, unusual bleeding or bruising (blood in urine or stool), severe stomach pain, shortness of breath. Changes in body fat may occur while you taking this drug (e.g., increased fat in the upper back & stomach areas, decreased fat in arms & legs). the cause & long-term effects of these changes are unknown. Discuss the risks & benefits of therapy with your healthcare professional, as well as the possible role of exercise to reduce this side effect. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.

    Norvir Precautions: Before taking this drug tell your healthcare professional if you have: liver or kidney disease, diabetes, blood disorders, allergies (especially drug allergies). Tobacco smoking may decrease the effects of it drug. it drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss risks & benefits with youre pharmacist. it is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Because breast milk can trasmit HIV, do not breast-feed.

    Norvir drug interactions: Before you take this med, tell you're pharmacist of all the drugs you take including prescription and nonprescription drugs especially about: amiodarone, astemizole, bepridil, bupropion, cisapride, clozapine, encainide, flecainide, meperidine, piroxicam, propafenone, propoxyphene, quinidine, rifabutin, terfenadine, zolpidem, benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide), clarithromycin, rifampin, medications that can harm kidneys (e.g., gentamicin, amphotericin), propofol, St John's wort, another protease inhibitors (e.g., saquinavir). Inform you're doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs: birth control pills, cyclosporine, dexamethasone, dronabinol, lansoprazole, losartan, omeprazole, ondansetron, prednisone, quinine, tacrolimus, theophylline, warfarin, anti- cancer meds, cholesterol-reducing medications, antidepressants, oral drugs used for diabetes, anti-seizure drugs, heart medication, high blood pressure meds (calcium channel & beta-blockers), drugs used to treat schizophrenia, pain drug (narcotic analgesics & NSAIDS). this drug may interfere with the effectiveness about birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. don't start or stop any medicine without physician or healthcare professional approval.

    Norvir Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include change at amount of urine; or numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet.

    Norvir special notes: this tablet does not cure HIV. Patients treated with ritonavir may continue to acquire 'opportunistic' infections associated with HIV. this drug also does not prevent transmission of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood.

    If you missed Norvir dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours of next dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. this is important not to miss doses about this drug.

    Norvir Storage: Refrigeration between 36 to 46 degrees F (2 to 8 C) is recommended; however, the capsules may be kept at room temperature not to exceed 77 degrees F (25 C) for up to 30 days. do not expose the drug to heat or sunlight.

    Medical alert: your condition can cause complications in medical emergency.
