Symmetrel Usage: it med is used to treat or prevent infections of respiratory tract caused by a certain virus. it acts by slowing the growth of virus. Amantadine is also used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease and to treat side effects caused by certain psychiatric drugs.
How to use Symmetrel: this pill is best taken on an empty stomach, but may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. this drug works best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do it by taking the pill at evenly spaced intervals throughout day & night. If you are taking amantadine since viral infection, begin taking it as soon as possible. Continue to take until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after few days. Stopping med too early may result in relapse of the infection. in Parkinson's disease, effects about med may not be apparent for few weeks. do not suddenly stop taking drug as an increase in symptoms may occur. some your pharmacist may want to reduce some your dose gradually. If after some months, you notice drug may not be as effective, contact your healthcare professional. Tolerance can develop after long-term use.
Symmetrel side effects: it tablet can cause stomach upset, nausea, drowsiness, constipation, headache, dizziness, anxiety, or purplish-red blotchy spots on skin during first several days as your body adjusts to the drug. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your physician promptly. Notify your physician if you develop: slurred speech, shortness of breath, swelling of the arms or legs, vision disturbances, difficulty urinating, skin rash, mental/mood changes. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or doctor.
Symmetrel Precautions: Tell your physician your medical history, including: allergies (especially medication allergies), swelling, heart problems. Because this drug may cause blurred vision or dizziness, use caution when driving or operating machinery while taking it tablet. Limit use of alcoholic beverages. Amantadine must be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. since small amounts of drug do appear in breast milk, consult with youre healthcare professional before breast-feeding.
Symmetrel medication interactions: Tell your pharmacist of every prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: other drugs used for Parkinson's disease, stimulants (like decongestants commonly found in cough-and-cold products). do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or healthcare professional approval.
Symmetrel Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, slurred speech, blurred vision, drowsiness, memory loss, depression, excessive excitability, increased sensitivity to sun, loss of consciousness, quick or irregular heartbeat.

If you missed Symmetrel dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if It's almost time for the following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
