Warning: Ganciclovir injection must be used only to prevent CMV infection in HIV patients or organ transplant patients; or for poeple who have CMV eye infection & weak immune systems. this medication may cause severe blood disorders (e.g., anemia, granulocytopenia, decreased platelets). Notify your pharmacist immediately if you develop unusual fatigue, easy bruising or bleeding, or signs of an infection such as persistent fever or sore throat.

Cytovene Usage: this is an antiviral medication used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections of eye, or to prevent CMV disease.
How to use Cytovene: it med is given by injection in to a vein. Each dose is usually administered over period about one hour. Use this drug exactly as prescribed. do not stop using this medication or increase your dose without consulting youre doctor. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. at least 6 to 8 glasses of water or another liquids are recommended daily. Keep every physician appointments & lab visits. this medication can affect your blood. Lab tests will be scheduled routinely to closely monitor effect of this medication on your blood.
Cytovene side effects: Diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, confusion, nervousness, vivid dreams, tremor, weakness, swelling of feet or ankles & pain or irritation at the injection site have been reported. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your healthcare professional. Notify youre doctor immediately if you develop: a skin rash, fever, chills, difficulty breathing, unusual bleeding. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.
Cytovene Precautions: Tell your healthcare professional your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, any allergies. Caution is advised if this drug is used at the elderly, as they may have decreased kidney function which may cause ganciclovir to build up in their bloodstream. Increased side effects may result. this medication isn't recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare professional before using this medication. it is recommended that men & women use birth control measures while taking this med since birth defects have been noted in animal studies. Men should use a barrier contraceptive (latex condom) during & for at least 90 days after taking this tablet. Because this isn't known if this medication appears in breast milk, consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.
Cytovene tablet interactions: Inform your physician of all medicines you use (both prescription & nonprescription). this medication should be used under strict supervision by persons taking zidovudine (AZT) since combination can result in severe blood disorders. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or physician approval.
Cytovene Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose could be expected to be extensions of symptoms noted in Side Effects section.
Cytovene special notes: it pill is not a cure for CMV infections, so symptoms may continue. Regular eye examinations are recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of this therapy. Use of this medication in children has been limited. Discuss the risks & benefits with your pharmacist. Elderly persons should use it pill cautiously & have periodic kidney tests to watch if dosage adjustments necessary.
If you missed Cytovene dose: do not double dose if missed; check with your MD.
Cytovene Storage: Store vial at room temperature away form sunlight. Store reconstituted vial at room temperature. don't refrigerate. Store the final intravenous solution in refrigerator. Warm to room temperature before use & cash expiration date. do not freeze.
