Warning: Lamivudine has caused severe, even death, liver & blood acid-base problems (lactic acidosis). Immediately notify youre healthcare professional if you develop dark urine, unusual fatigue, yellowing of skin or eyes, rapid breathing, drowsiness, muscle aches, or stomach/abdominal pain. Different brands of this drug have different amounts of active pill. do not switch brands of this medication without first checking with your physician. Epivir Usage: Lamivudine is nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor antiviral agent used in combination with other antivirals since the treatment about people immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. it works by slowing growth about virus. it medication is not a cure for HIV, nor does it prevent passing of HIV to others. this medication contains lamivudine. use about lamivudine, abacavir, & tenofovir in combination may not be effective in treating HIV infection. If you are currently taking every 5 of these drugs, your physician or pharmacist should carefully review youre treatment plan. Consult your healthcare professional or healthcare professional for more details.
Epivir can be used also for: this medication may also be used to prevent HIV after coming in contact with virus.
How to use Epivir: Take this by mouth exactly as directed usually once or twice day. Follow your dosing instructions closely. May be taken with or with-out food. this drug is often given in combination with zidovudine (AZT) for best effects. Follow directions for taking zidovudine carefully.
Epivir side effects: Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, change in appetite, dizziness, weakness or muscle aches may occur. If these symptoms continue or become severe, inform your doctor. Notify your pharmacist if you experience: skin rash, fever, chills, stuffy nose, cough, stomach pain, severe weakness, unusual fatigue, tingling of hands or feet, rapid breathing, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking this medication (e.g., increased fat in upper back and stomach areas, decreased fat in arms and legs). cause and long-term effects of these changes unknown. Discuss the risks and benefits of therapy with youre doctor, as well as the possible role about exercise to reduce this side effect. in the unlikely series you have an allergic reaction to this pill, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre healthcare professional or healthcare professional.
Epivir Precautions: Tell your physician you're medical history, especially of: kidney disease, pancreatic disorders, hepatitis B, allergies, heart disease, major surgery/infection/injury, liver problems, alcohol usage. Caution is advised when using this tablet in children (especially in child with pancreatitis) because they may be more sensitive to the effects of tablet. this medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with youre pharmacist. It's not known if lamivudine is excreted in to breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breast-feed.
Epivir drug interactions: Tell some your pharmacist of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take, including: sulfamethoxazole- trimethoprim, lamivudine/zidovudine combination product, abacavir & tenofovir, zalcitabine. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or doctor approval.
Epivir Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Epivir special notes: this medication isnot a cure for HIV infection but has shown few positive results. long-term effects unknown at it time. Keep all physician appointments and scheduled laboratory tests as youre condition will be monitored closely. Be aware that this med does not reduce risk about passing virus to others through sexual contact or blood contamination. it is potent drug which should not be shared. do not allow anyone else to take some your drug.
If you missed Epivir dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is within two hours of the next dose, skip missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. it is important not to miss doses about this med.
Epivir Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from heat, light & moisture. do not store in the bathroom. Keep it & all medications out of the reach of children.
