Warning: Because HIV can quickly become resistant to this medication if used alone, nevirapine must be used with at least 1 other anti-HIV drug. your pharmacist may change your treatment plan if this drug stops working well. Nevirapine has caused severe, even fatal, liver & skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, allergic reaction). If you develop a rash while using this drug, stop using nevirapine & notify your healthcare professional immediately. If you develop unusual fatigue, abdominal or stomach pain, dark urine, nausea, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, seek immediate medical attention.

Viramune Usage: this med is used in the treatment of HIV virus (the virus that causes AIDS). Its used at combination with other HIV-fighting medications.
How to use Viramune: Shake gently before each dose & take exactly as directed by youre doctor. Dosage for first 14 days is lower to minimize rash occurrence. Nevirapine is taken with at least one another antiretroviral pill for HIV. If rash develops in first two weeks, do not increase the dose until rash is gone. Consult you're physician. If treatment is stopped since more than 7 days, re-starting this drug should follow the same dosing pattern as before.
Viramune side effects: Nausea or headache may occur. Notify your prescriber if these problems persist or worsen. Notify your prescriber immediately if you develop: rash, itching, fever, blistering, mouth sores, pink eye (conjunctivitis), swelling, muscle/joint aches, yellowing of the skin or eyes, stomach pain, tingling or numb hands or feet. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking it medication (e.g., increased fat in the upper back & stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and legs). cause & long-term effects about these changes are unknown. Discuss the risks and benefits about therapy with you're doctor, as well as possible role of exercise to reduce it side effect. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Viramune Precautions: this drug should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your physician or physician if you have: severe liver disease. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially about: liver disease, severe kidney disease, allergies (especially med allergies). this med should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. Nevirapine is excreted into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breast-feed.
Viramune medication interactions: this drug is not recommended for use with: ketoconazole. Ask you're pharmacist or pharmacist for more details. Inform your prescriber or pharmacist about every the medicines you may use (both prescription & non-prescription), especially of: protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, lopinavir, saquinavir), efavirenz, terfenadine, astemizole, alprazolam, triazolam, nifedipine, cyclosporine, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, hydrocortisone), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin), rifamycins (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), methadone, cimetidine, St John's wort. this drug may interfere with effectiveness about birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with youre pharmacist. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or physician approval.
Viramune Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Viramune special notes: long-term effects about nevirapine are unknown at this time. Nevirapine has not been shown to reduce the chance of transmitting the HIV virus to others. No cure exists for HIV infection & the illnesses associated with your disease (infections, etc.) may continue. Laboratory tests (e.g., liver function) will be performed in order to monitor for drug side effects.
If you missed Viramune dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's within two hours about next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. It's important not to miss doses of this drug.
Viramune Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture & light as directed. do not store in bathroom. Keep in tightly closed bottle.
