Warning: Because HIV can quickly become resistant to it drug if used alone, nevirapine should be used with at least 1 another anti-HIV medication. some your pharmacist may change your treatment plan if it med stops working well. Nevirapine has infrequently caused severe (sometimes fatal) liver and skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, allergic reaction). If you develop a rash while using it drug, stop using nevirapine and notify your doctor immediately. If you develop unusual fatigue, abdominal or stomach pain, dark urine, nausea, loss about appetite, or yellowing of skin or eyes, seek immediate medical attention.

Viramune Usage: this medication is used in the treatment of infection with the HIV virus (the virus that causes AIDS). this is used in combination with other HIV meds in selected patients. No cure exists for HIV infection, and illnesses associated with your disease (infections, etc.) may continue.
How to use Viramune: Take by mouth as directed. usual dose is one 200m tablet daily for the 1st 14 days, then followed by one 200mg pill twice day. Nevirapine is taken with at least one other medication (antiretroviral) for HIV. It's important to follow dosing instructions carefully in order to minimize serious side effects, such as rash. If a rash develops in 1st two weeks, the nevirapine dose is not increased until rash is gone. If treatment is stopped since more than 7 days, then re-treatment should begin with one 200mg pill daily for 14 days, then one 200mg pill twice a day.
Viramune side effects: Nausea or headache may occur. Notify you're prescriber if these problems persist or worsen. Notify your prescriber immediately if you experience: rash, itching, fever, blistering, mouth sores, pink eye (conjunctivitis), swelling, muscle/joint aches, yellowing of the skin or eyes, stomach pain, tingling/numbness of the hands or feet. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking this medication (e.g., increased fat in upper back & stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms & legs). cause & long-term effects of these changes unknown. Discuss risks and benefits of therapy with your doctor, as well as possible role of exercise to reduce this side effect. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or physician.
Viramune Precautions: this drug should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult you're healthcare professional or pharmacist if you have: severe liver disease. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially about: liver disease, severe kidney disease, any allergies. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare professional. this drug is excreted into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breast-feed.
Viramune drug interactions: this drug is not recommended for use with: ketoconazole. Ask your doctor or healthcare professional since more details. Inform youre prescriber or doctor about all the medicines you take (prescription and nonprescription), especially about: protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, lopinavir, saquinavir), efavirenz, terfenadine, astemizole, alprazolam, triazolam, nifedipine, cyclosporine, prednisone, hydrocortisone (corticosteroids), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., azithromycin, erythromycin), rifamycins (e.g., rifabutin, rifampin), methadone, cimetidine, St John's wort. this drug may interfere with effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your physician. do not start or stop any medicine with out pharmacist or physician approval.
Viramune Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Viramune special notes: long-term effects of nevirapine unknown at this time. Nevirapine has not been shown to reduce chance of transmitting the HIV virus to others. Laboratory tests (e.g., liver function) will be performed in order to monitor since drug side effects.
If you missed Viramune dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's within 2 hours of next dose, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. it is important not to miss doses of this drug.
Viramune Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture and light as directed. don't store in bathroom. Keep in tightly closed bottle.
