Warning: Infrequently, didanosine can cause severe (sometimes fatal) side effects such as inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), blood problems (lactic acidosis) or liver problems. death lactic acidosis has also occurred during pregnancy when this drug was used in combination with stavudine & other medications used to treat HIV. Stop using this drug & notify your doctor immediately if you develop stomach or abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, rapid breathing, dizziness, feeling cold (low body temperature), yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine. your pharmacist should determine whether or not you have pancreatitis before re-starting didanosine.

Videx Usage: Didanosine stops the growth of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to help fight AIDS. this med isn't cure for AIDS nor does this prevent the passing about HIV to others.
How to use Videx: Use this medicine exactly as prescribed by doctor. It's important to give it medicine on an empty stomach. Open packet & pour contents in to one half glass of water (4 ounces or 120ml). do not mix with fruit juice or carbonated drinks. Stir well until the powder is completely dissolved. this should take 2 to 3 minutes. Drink solution immediately.
Videx side effects: it drug may cause headache, cough, rash, weakness, loss of appetite, chills, fever, sore tongue or mouth, change about taste, muscle or joint pain or insomnia as your body adjusts to the medication. Inform you're doctor if these symptoms persist or become worse. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience: severe diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, tingling/numbness/pain at you're hands or feet, yellowing of eyes or skin, unusual bleeding or bruising, dark urine, rapid breathing. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking this medication (e.g., increased fat in upper back & stomach areas, decreased fat in arms & legs). the cause and long-term effects of these changes are unknown. Discuss the risks and benefits of therapy with some your healthcare professional, as well as possible role about exercise to reduce this side effect. in the unlikely part you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
Videx Precautions: Tell youre healthcare professional your medical history, especially about: pancreatic disease, tingling of hands or feet (called peripheral neuropathy), kidney problems, heart problems, liver problems, a sodium-restricted diet, major surgery/infection/in- jury, alcohol use, gall bladder problems, stomach problems, vision problems, high fats in the blood (triglycerides), allergies (especially drug allergies). Avoid alcoholic beverages because they may worsen pancreatitis. Before using didanosine, tell your doctor if you pregnant. this isnt known if didanosine passes into breast milk. Because breast milk can pass HIV infection, do not breast-feed.
Videx medication interactions: this med must not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: allopurinol, ribavirin. If you are currently using any about these drugs, tell you're physician or pharmacist before starting didanosine. Tell your doctor of all prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, triazolam), delavirdine, drugs that decrease stomach acid (e.g., cimetidine, omeprazole), ganciclovir, protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir), tenofovir, methadone, stavudine, zalcitabine, zidovudine. Also, report the use of drugs that may increase the risk of pancreatitis (e.g., pentamidine or sulfonamides such as cotrimoxazole). Consult your doctor or physician. don't use dapsone, itraconazole, ketoconazole within two hours of this medication. Food decreases the absorption of this drug. Follow your doctor's advice about food & the use of this drug. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or pharmacist approval.
Videx Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include tingling, burning, or numbness in hands or feet; diarrhea; yellowing of skin or eyes; dark urine or pale stools; unusual fatigue; or severe stomach pain with nausea or vomiting.
Videx special notes: Blood tests & eye exams will be done to monitor youre progress. this is powerful medication and must not be shared with others.
If you missed Videx dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours of next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. it is important not to miss doses of it drug.
Videx Storage: Store at 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture. After dissolving in water the solution may be stored at room temperature for no more than four hours.
