Verelan Usage: this medication is calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction & in controlling electrical impulses within heart. By blocking calcium, verapamil relaxes and widens blood vessels & can normalize heartbeats. Verapamil is used to treat high blood pressure.
Verelan can be used also for: this medication may also be used to help prevent chest pain (angina) or to treat irregular heartbeats.
How to use Verelan: capsule form of this medication may be taken without regard to meals. it medication must be taken as directed to prevent chest pain. It's not effective if taken only when chest pain occurs. do not stop taking this drug suddenly without youre doctor's permission. Chest pain can occur if medication is stopped too fast. your dose may need to be gradually decreased.
Verelan side effects: this drug can cause dizziness & lightheadedness especially during 1st few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down for a while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust & minimize dizziness. You may also experience bloating, heartburn, nausea, blurred vision, muscle cramps, headache, flushing, constipation. These effects must disappear as your body adjusts to med. Inform you're pharmacist if they become bothersome. Notify you're physician immediately if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling about the hands or feet, irregular heartbeats, fever, malaise, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing of skin & eyes, dark urine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre healthcare professional or physician.
Verelan Precautions: Before using this med, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems (e.g., heart rhythm disturbances, heart failure), liver or kidney disease, very LBP, muscular dystrophy, brain tumors (cancer). Before heart surgery, tell some your healthcare professional you use this medicine. Verapamil prolongs & intensifies effects of alcohol in your system. Avoid (or very carefully limit) alcoholic beverages while using it tablet. Caution is advised when this pill is used in elderly. this med should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. this medication is excreted at to breast milk & decision should be made whether to stop the drug or avoid breast-feeding. Consult your healthcare professional before breast-feeding.
Verelan drug interactions: Tell you're doctor about all prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: anticoagulants ('blood thinners'), beta-blockers, intravenous (IV) calcium, timolol ophthalmic, digoxin, disopyramide, high blood pressure drug, quinidine, carbamazepine, rifampin, cimetidine, lithium, flecainide, cyclosporine. Avoid any medications that increase you're heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine & phenylpropanolamine examples). These drugs are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your pharmacist instructs you otherwise. do not start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or physician approval.
Verelan Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; fainting; & loss of consciousness.
Verelan special notes: Laboratory tests (e.g., liver function tests) should be performed periodically to monitor for side effects. do not share this med with others.
If you missed Verelan dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if this is almost time for next dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Verelan Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
Medical alert: your condition can cause complications in medical emergency.
