Norvasc Usage: it med is calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction. By blocking calcium, amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels. this drug is used to treat HBP or chest pain (angina). high blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks & kidney problems.

How to use Norvasc: this medication must be swallowed whole, usually 1 time daily with or without food, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Use this medication regularly in order to get most benefit from it. Remember to take this at the same time each day. this medication isnot effective if you use it only when chest pain occurs. It's very important to take this med regularly as prescribed to help prevent chest pain. It's important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. most people with HBP do not feel sick. do not stop taking this tablet with out consulting your healthcare professional. youre chest pain may worsen if the drug is abruptly stopped. your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Norvasc side effects: this drug may cause dizziness and lightheadedness especially during the first few days. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position to allow your body time to adjust. Nausea, fatigue, weakness, stomach pain, drowsiness, muscle cramps, headache, or flushing may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, notify your physician or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any about these serious side effects occur: swelling about hands or feet. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: irregular heartbeat. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: worsening chest pain (attacks more frequent, more severe, or last longer), yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.

Norvasc Precautions: Before using this medication, tell your healthcare professional or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart disease, liver disease, any allergies. Limit intake of alcohol while taking it drug. Caution is advised when using this med in elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the tablet. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with some your doctor. this isnot known whether this medication passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding isn't recommended while using it drug.

Norvasc pill interactions: Before using this medication, tell you're physician or healthcare professional of all prescription & nonprescription goods you may use, especially about: other high blood pressure meds (e.g., beta-blockers, 'water pills'/diuretics), intravenous (IV) calcium, another meds for chest pain (e.g., nitroglycerin). dollars the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask youre pharmacist about the safe use about those products. don't start or stop any medicine with out pharmacist or doctor approval.

Norvasc Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe dizziness, fainting, & fast heartbeat.

Norvasc special notes: Have youre blood pressure checked regularly while taking this med. it may be best to learn how to monitor youre own blood pressure. Discuss this with your healthcare professional. do not share it drug with others.

If you missed Norvasc dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's near clock of next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.

Norvasc Storage: Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. don't store in bathroom. Keep every medicines away from child and pets.

Medical alert: your condition can cause complications in medical emergency.

		Female, Age : 30-40 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension. Side Effects : Swelling in my legs & hands. the 1st couple of weeks after I started taking it I felt very weak & listless, almost like a depression. I just didn't feel like doing anything. I wanted to sleep a lot. After continuing to take it, these symptoms went away fairly quickly & never returned. Review : Norvasc controlled my BP wonderfully for over 5 years, until I gained some weight & needed an increased dosage. I ended up having to add HCTZ and potassium to my med regimen because of swelling Norvasc caused. it was a great med though. I've since lost a lot about weight & no longer take any about it. it worked well for me. Just expect few swelling.

Side Effects : I have had edema about bilateral lower extremities, severe headache, (almost to point about being migraine), nausea, poor attention span (hard to focus & stay on task),fatigue and sinus congestion. After being on Norvasc the past 3 weeks this has finally lowered my systolic reading from 175 to 140 & the diastolic reading from 102-70, but is this worth continuing the medication with above side effects? Review : I am working on my education to become nurse practitioner, these symptoms would make me hesitatant to prescribe the drug.

Review : I was on 5mg generic meds since less than week. My BP was out of control, spent 3wks+ in hospital with extreme swelling & water retention. since my stay in the hosp. I have been on dialysis & at this point I don't know if my kidneys will improve enough to be able to get off dialysis. it has been horrifying nightmare all thanks to Norvasc.

Side Effects : Light headed at first, slight drowsiness Review : I am taking this for raynoads, not HBP and in return, my blood pressure sits around 80/58 or lower. I've adjusted to this LBP but at 1'st this was hard to deal with. My hand still is constantly cold, & still hurts when the A/C is on in my car. I will see how it works in winter time. on 10mg at night

Review : I have to take Tenormin and Zanaflex, which is muscle relaxant, along with it. it takes nearly two hours for it to start working and then within four hours It's not working at all. Dr is trying to find something else that will work without having to add so much about other medications with this.

I have had several bouts about vertigo in six months, low libido, dry, dry skin & weight gain. I will continue with this drug because I have such hard time finding drug I can tolerate. Review : Take 10mg along with 12.5mg toprol daily.

I felt 'wired' due to what was going on with my heart. Review : I tried it twice & had to go off of this both times. friend's daughter was put on it for HBP and within 24 hrs. was in the E.R. with arrythmia of her heart.

		Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension. Side Effects : Have had hypertension since I was 35 and have experienced a lot of stress for much, much of years. Also, HBP runs in my family. I had been taking 10mgs Norvasc for 3 months when I started getting it reddish, pin point rash from mid calf down to tops about both feet. the rash will turn to brownish color like freckles in a couple of days. Found out from a dermatologist that this rash is called, Schamburgs purpura and could be side effect about the drug. this drug can thin your blood & also may cause gum disease. I have to brush my teeth gently or finish up with bleeding gums. Also, I am tired everyday & feel unmotivated making myself do housework etc. Review : I also get swelling of my ankles and feet if I take 10 mgs so I have cut the dosage to three mgs. Lately, I've been having palpitations which scare me & make my anxiety disorder worse. I wouldn't recommend it drug to anyone & wonder how drug company can market such drug. BEWARE! Do your research on the internet before agreeing to taking this.

Side Effects : Tingling in legs; burning or heat flashes in legs & feet; tiredness in legs; feeling that somehow not enough energy getting to legs. Review : I have tried it drug for about 40 days; It's very effective in short time (hours). it consistently has kept my bp at or below 'normal' 120/80; taking in night helped bit (energy) more than in morning; started in 10mg, went down to 5mg -- that helped too. the tradeoff of better bp readings vs. reduced motivation, energy & strength to be physically active (most noticable when trying to run, do yoga, etc.) is bit high for me as I do not feel as fit though I have felt more relaxed. If other alternatives do not work out I would consider going back to it if I had to.

Side Effects : Been taking it for 1 year now 2.5mg and bp is at constant. first 6 mos was great now side effects more prominent. Slight dizzyness when I get up, mild fatgue and head ache sensations. I also lost 30lbs but I'm anxious to loose more & get out of the pill. Review : My healthcare professional says my high bp was carried over after I gave birth. I'm only 32 & worried nuts over future. Review : I wanted to update as I had left review at 2004 now that the patent has expired on norvasc pharmacy mailed me generic version & did not tell me that they had switched to generic I started having depression, nightmares trouble sleeping heart burn & stomach problems I could not understand why I was having these issues & didnt associate it with generic version until I happend to notice details on the bottle month in to my perscription. Demand norvasc not generic junk! also I would like to add for those who have constipation take norvasc in morning or early afternoon with full glass of water. I had constipation within days of switching my dose to nightime my bowels were mess one time I switched back to early afternoon they were fine within a some days.

Side Effects : Headaches, lightheadedness, constant erections Review : My pressure actually dropped too many making me very sluggish and confused. Lower dose resolved that. 		Male, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : High BP, 164/80. Side Effects : I have been runner for the last 25 years. Ran one marathon in 2000, & have done number of halfs & 10 milers & 10Ks. Over past year I have had little achilles injury & have put on weight (about 12 lbs, not incident to Norvasc). After bein on Norvasc for about a month my legs were very sore, to extent that when I did 4 miler, I had to stope & walk since about 200 M at the halfway point in order to get back. Seemed more winded than usual. I take it before bed & it isn't until evening of following day that feet (not ankles, interestly enough) swell up - to the extent that I'm afraid my shoes will pop off. I just quit Norvasc altogether about a week ago, & I feel better, but not completely normal. Review : it took the BP down from 164/80 to about 130/78 range. I am thinking about making concerted effort at diet, continued workouts & stay with the diuretic (HCTZ). May pure Norvasc & not generic I am on is the answer. Would consider going back to it if non-generic.

Side Effects : Bloating, tired, very dizzy, sick to my stomach,hot flashes,stomach pain, my body itches, horrible headaches, difficulty swallowing Review : These side effects last 8 to 10 hours and her blood pressure is still too high 180+/100. this is every happening to my elderly 5' tall 100 lb mother. this is aging her greatly. I'm angry because she has been complaining about these problems & the doctors must have know this was this medicine. I didn't trust my mother over healthcare professionals, I'm ashamed of myself. 		Male, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : To control BP. Side Effects : After years on Norvasc, BP started to increase. Dr changed drug to Dynacirc. On Dynacirc for 2 weeks without any improvement, but then developed sever sholder & hip joint, & lower back muscle, pain. Could not sleep without pain. Stopped Dynacirc & back to Norvasc. BP was high & eratic for some days, but the joint and muscle pain seemed to go away within 6-8 hours of ceasing Dynacirc. However now 1 week later with my Norvasc, I now have the return of joint & muscle pain. Strange that I never had this pain with Norvasc. Seems as though Dynacirc sensitized my body to whatever chemical is in these calcium channel blockers, & now even old Norvasc is causing the pains. other symptom that I have with Norvasc is periphereal obrbital edema - horizontal sack of fluid about 1/4 inch thick and 1 inch long has developed under my left eye socket. Asked the Dr many times about this, but he never told me what it was. Never had it until I had started on Norv Review : On Norvasc since years. Dr prescribed Dynacirc in October 2006, and took about month before pain began. Stopped Dynacirc about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and returned to Norvasc. Joint & muscle pain ceaased temporarily, but have returned. Stopped taking all drugs about three days ago. BP is eratic & higher than I'd like it to be, but I do not want pain. Hopefully the Dr can prescribe something that will work for me without this painful side effect.

My Internist would not change the perscription - NICE HUH? I do not trust those types any more. and, I did stop going to that Dr. but haven't found new one yet. So, I'm finishing up Norvasc I have, while I search for alternatives. Last night I forgot to take Norvasc, & I slept better than I have at months, & today I feel energized. I think I'll try the DASH diet to lower blood pressure (and improve other heath issues). Someone mentioned DASH diet on it site. Bless you! I have gastritis, which may be related to Norvasc weakening smooth muscles such as sphincters in digestive tract (and blood vessels of course). the gastritis flarred up around time I started taking Norvasc. I asked the Gastroenterologist if calcium channel blockers weaken sphincter which can cause digestive trouble such as acid reflux, gastritis, and slow digestion, & weak bladder. Review : military pharmacy took Norvasc off the formulary & suggested I use Plendil in It's place. Worse mistake I ever made. I've used Norvasc 10 years and had occasional swelling in my legs when I didn't drink enough water or sat in chair that cut off circulation. the leopard spots just annoying. I've been on Plendil for four months and have palpatations about my heart, tightness at my chest, vertigo, nausea, and slight headache. Tomorrow I'm calling my doctor to put me back on Norvasc.

		Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension. Side Effects : Severe muscle pain in legs & back. Loss of balance due to pain. Could no longer lift my leg to ride my bike. Blurred vision. Takes every pleausre away from gardening & exercise. Pain in hips so painful I couldn't sleep. Review : I seem to be very sesitive to medications. Norvasc lowers my blood pressure in combination with Diovan and lasix. My healthcare professional has been working for 3 years to find a combination that doesn't have serious side effects. But I have been off Norvasc for 3 days & I can walk without pain again.

		Male, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : Prehypertension. Side Effects : Seemed to only intermitantly lower my blood pressure, as if my body wanted my blood pressure 135/80 and drug wanted it 110/70. After about four weeks the Norvasc seemed to stabilized me in 125/75, but side effects began to occur. Ankle/feet swelling went from nuisance to uncomfortable & undeniable. 		Female, Age : 40-50 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension. Side Effects : first few days there were no side effects but after about 5 days on the pill I began to feel tired, fatigued, drowsy, light-headed & dizzy all time. I, also, developed heart palpitations which I had not had before being on norvasc. Overall, it did lower my blood pressure by a several points but eating some cloves of fresh garlic daily in addition to taking this improved effectiveness about norvasc. Review : I'm not sure that side effects of it drug, in particular, fatigue & dizziness which I experience every day long every day is worth my taking norvasc. Although it seems to be more effective than other bp meds I've taken, this drug, love several of others, interferes with my work and my life. I have problems concentrating & thinking on this medication.

		Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension. Side Effects : None - Its excellent I do not even notice it. Review : When I first started taking it I could tell if I missed a week because I had small amount more energy. Now I workout & that isnt true. I've been on it of 15 years. I take 5mg day and with working out my bp is 118/82. I've been hypertensive since I was 21 years old.
