Calcitriol Usage: Calcitriol is type of vitamin D (vitamin D3). Vitamin D is fat-soluble vitamin stored in the body & necessary since normal bone development. Calcitriol used to treat or prevent certain types of calcium & phosphate disorders (e.g., hypocalcemia) at people on long- term dialysis (chronic renal failure - CRF). this works by regulating parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels which, in turn, affect calcium levels in blood.
How to use Calcitriol: Learn every preparation & usage instructions in the product package. If any of information is unclear, consult youre doctor or physician. Inject this medication into vein (IV) usually every other day or at any time during dialysis; or as directed by your doctor. dosage is based on some your weight, medical condition, and response to therapy. Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use liquid. Learn how to store & discard needles & medical supplies safely. Consult you're pharmacist.
Calcitriol side effects: Nausea, headache, constipation, or pain/discomfort at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify you're doctor promptly. Promptly tell your pharmacist if any of these side effects occur: decreased interest in sex. Tell your physician immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: drowsiness, lightheadedness, vomiting, dry mouth, thirst, dehydration, metallic taste in the mouth, unusual weakness, bone pain, muscle pain, swelling. Tell your doctor immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: chills, weight loss, increased need to urinate at night, loss of appetite, eye problems, stomach pain, sensitivity to light, severe runny nose, itching, dizziness. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: irregular heartbeat, severe mental/mood changes, bloody or tarry stool, fever, trouble breathing, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Calcitriol Precautions: this medication isnt recommended for use if you have following medical conditions: high calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia). Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart problems (e.g., arrhythmias, coronary artery disease), any allergies. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your physician. Its not known whether it tablet passes into breast milk. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.
Calcitriol medication interactions: Tell your physician of all prescription & nonprescription drug you may use, especially: other vitamin D or phosphate-containing goods, digoxin, antacids, calcium supplements. do not start or stop any medicine with-out healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.
Calcitriol Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include: irregular heartbeat, severe stomach pain, unusually deep sleep.
Calcitriol special notes: do not share it med with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., calcium and/or phosphorus levels) may be performed to monitor your progress.
If you missed Calcitriol dose: If you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If It's near clock of the next dose, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Calcitriol Storage: Store at room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C) away from light. Brief storage between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted.
