    Entacapone - oral

    common brand names: Comtan

    Comtan Usage: this medication is used to treat Parkinson's Disease, in combination with levodopa-containing medicines. Entacapone must be used with some your other Parkinson's Disease medicines in order to work.

    How to use Comtan: this medicine is taken by mouth, with or without food Entacapone generally is taken at the same time as you're levodopa/carbidopa medicine, or as directed. Follow all instructions carefully; you may need to decrease the dosage of you're levodopa/carbidopa, depending on the amount of levodopa you currently take. you're levodopa/carbidopa dosing schedule may change as well. do not suddenly stop using this pill: the dosage should be reduced gradually to minimize possible side effects. Consult youre healthcare professional or physician for more information. manufacturer advises a maximum of 8 doses per day.

    Comtan side effects: Diarrhea, drowsiness, upset stomach or dizziness may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify youre healthcare professional promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any about these unlikely but serious side effects: mental/mood changes, fainting, muscle coordination problems. Tell you're pharmacist immediately if you have any about these highly unlikely but very serious side effects: muscle pain, change in amount of urine. this drug can cause harmless discoloration (brownish-orange color) of you're urine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or pharmacist.

    Comtan Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, including: liver disease, any allergies. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. this pill may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Entacapone isn't indicated for use at children. it pill should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your doctor. it is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Comtan drug interactions: Tell your physician of every prescription & nonprescription medication you may use, especially about: most MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine), isoproterenol, adrenalin (epinephrine), norepinephrine, dopamine, dobutamine, alpha-methyldopa, apomorphine, isoetharine, bitolterol, probenecid, cholestyramine, certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, ampicillin, rifamin, chloramphenicol). According to the manufacturer, if you are prescribed MAO inhibitor selegiline you may continue to take this while using entacapone. Also, report use about any medicine that can make you drowsy, such as: sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medicine, anti-seizure drugs, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines, certain drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). do not start or stop any medicine with-out healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.

    Comtan Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Comtan special notes: do not share this med with others.

    If you missed Comtan dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If Its near time of the following dose, skip the missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. don't double the dose to catch up.

    Comtan Storage: Store at room temperature - 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) - away from light & moisture.
