Emla Usage: it combination of local anesthetic agents is used on skin to provide pain relief during certain clinical procedures (e.g., intravenous catheter placement).
How to use Emla: Peel away protective liner and place disc on procedure site, usually 1 hour before the procedure or as directed by you're physician. Use this drug only on normal, intact skin. Avoid contact with eyes, open wounds or mucous membranes. If eye contact occurs, rinse affected eye immediately and thoroughly with water & protect eye until sensation returns. anesthetic effect must be noticed within 1 hour. do not leave the medication on skin for longer than 4 hours unless directed to do so by youre doctor. effect will usually persist for 1 to two hours after removal of the drug.
Emla side effects: Paleness, redness or swelling at site about application may occur. These effects will usually disappear within 1 to 2 hours. If these effects persist or worsen, notify you're doctor. Tell your physician immediately if you have any about these very unlikely but serious side effects: blistering about the skin, slow heart rate, dizziness. An allergic reaction to this med is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact you're physician or physician.
Emla Precautions: Tell youre physician your medical history, including: allergies (especially to other local anesthetics), heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, methemoglobinemia (a blood disorder). since this drug may completely numb your skin, avoid scratching or rubbing affected area of skin. Also, avoid exposing the affected area of skin to hot or cold temperatures until sensation has returned, so as to prevent accidental injury. Caution is advised when prescribing or using it medication in elderly since they may be more sensitive to effects of the med. Emla pill interactions: Tell your healthcare professional of every prescription & nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: other anesthetics (e.g., 'caine'-type drugs), pills for irregular heartbeats (antiarrhythmic drugs such as tocainide or mexiletine), sulfonamides, acetaminophen, chloroquine, dapsone, nitrofurantoin, nitrates & nitrites, nitroglycerin, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primaquine, quinine. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.
Emla Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. this medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
