Prevacid Usage: this drug is proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat various acid-related stomach and/or throat (esophagus) problems (e.g., acid reflux or GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). Lansoprazole works by blocking acid production in stomach. Lansoprazole may also be used to treat ulcers due to the long-term use of certain medications (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs) for pain or swelling. in addition, this pill may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat certain types of ulcers.
How to use Prevacid: Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily, before meal; or as directed by your physician. don't crush or chew the capsules. Swallow the med whole. If you have difficulty swallowing this pill whole, capsule may be opened & the contents sprinkled onto soft food (e.g., applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt), or emptied into small amount (2 oz or 60 ml) about juice & taken as directed. Rinse the container with an additional small amount of juice and drink the contents to make sure the entire dose is taken. do not chew food/medication mixture or prepare a supply in advance; it may destroy the drug and/or increase side effects. Potent acid-reducing medicines such as lansoprazole can decrease effectiveness of sucralfate, as well as other medications such as antifungals ketoconazole & itraconazole. If instructed to take any about these drugs while taking lansoprazole, consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding proper timing of each dose. since example, if you are instructed to take sucralfate in addition to lansoprazole, Its best to take lansoprazole at least 30 minutes before your sucralfate. Antacids may be taken along with this medication, if needed. the dosage & length of treatment is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. Use this drug regularly in order to get most benefit from this. Remember to use it in same clock each day. Continue to take this medication for the prescribed length of treatment even if you are feeling better.
Prevacid side effects: Constipation or diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify youre doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell youre pharmacist immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: stomach pain. An allergic reaction to it medication is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Prevacid Precautions: Before using this tablet, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heartburn combined with lightheadedness or sweating or dizziness, chest pain or shoulder/jaw pain especially with shortness of breath, pain spreading to arms or neck or shoulders, unexplained weight loss, liver problems, another stomach problems (e.g., tumors), any allergies (including drug allergies). this drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with some your physician. Its not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended.
Prevacid drug interactions: Before using it drug, tell youre physician or healthcare professional about all prescription & nonprescription products you may use, especially of: ampicillin, azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), cilostazol, digoxin, iron supplements, sucralfate, theophylline, voriconazole. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Prevacid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Prevacid special notes: do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed periodically to monitor you're progress.
If you missed Prevacid dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time about next dose, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Prevacid Storage: Store in room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C) away from light & moisture. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. don't store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children & pets.
