Female, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : For elevated BP.
Side Effects : I have a cough that I didn't have at age 20 when my BP was 80 over 60! Have to pay for drugs myself so one side effect is thin wallet.
Review : Hyzaar has controlled my BP well. I was on Procardia for much years & wanted to stay on this. this held BP down well but I gradually developed aching every over my body that just got worse over years that I could find every kinds of reasons for. Everything hurt. Ibuprofen, Tylenol & aspirin couldn't stop it. healthcare professional suggested switch to Cozaar, which didnt hold BP down. then on to Hyzaar; aching disappeared, I no longer need to get up during the night to go to bathroom, slight Knee & ankle swelling I had is gone. I am grateful to have it, despite the price. When I exercise regularly, I lose a pound or two. When I stop exercising or eat more or eat too much high-calorie stuff, I look a weight gain. Day-to-day, things go well. I have no problems I didn't have before taking Cozaar/Hyzaar.

Female, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : Bp med sular wasn't keeping bp down.
Side Effects : Severe nausea, diarrhea, vomitting
Review : I was taken off every other drugs & only taking it one. I would wake up feeling fine, eat breakfast, & then take hyzaar. Almost immediately, I would get severely nauseated, & be in bed most of day nauseated & having diarrhea. They would then give me shot to help nausea, which by about 8pm I would start feeling great again, only to go through tthe same process each morning since over week, until I was released from hospital. Because of nausea, and not being able to eat, I became dehydrated to the point that IV was needed to rehydrate. I do have sulfa allergy, & it medication has some components of sulfa, & as soon as I stopped taking this med, I was better, with no symptoms returning.

Slight runny nose with some congestion at times however I do have preschool age child & It's allergy season so.... we will look!
Review : I was on Micardis 80/25 and cardiac side effects were soo extreme that I had to switch. Bp was also way too low in 100/60. I stay around 125/84 now. I was 160/110 while up & 140/90 resting before meds. Otherwise am a healthy young women. No cause for HTN no family history. . renal scans, ECHO, EKGS, 24 urine, serum tests all come back normal. Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High Blood Pressure / Hypertension.
Side Effects : Wake up tired, sleepiness, lethargy, tired, mild dizzyness, panic attacks, anxiety, constant runny nose, sneezing, sweating
Review : Almost immediately after starting this drug I started to feel tired all the time. at first I thought this was because healthcare professional said I might, but It's been over five months & I'm still feeling tired. Walking is problem. I often feel 'woozy' & have to stop. the dizzyness improved after couple of months but woozy feeling comes & goes. My blood pressure is better but not where it must be yet. I have developed a runny nose & allergy that won't quit. I wake up sneezing but it goes away. it comes back at odd times during day. & I never used to sweat. Now I sweat lot in hot weather & I had to switch to a stronger deodorant. I am prone to panic attacks & have seen an increase in severity over past several months. Until I read this forum, I was at loss as to what was causing them. Now I think I know.

Review : I have been experiencing these side effects for months, but thought it was just me, moody beast that I am. After looking at every the comments here I'm now concerned & will go to my doctor for another medication. Blood pressure had been at it is highest 170/85 or so. Now this ranges around 130/75. Side Effects : Anxiety, panic attacks, nausea. I already suffer from anxiety, depression and panic attacks & this medication has sent me through the roof in terms of anxiety. Panic attacks almost immediately, coupled with insomnia. Also difficulty in swallowing. No other side effects, but ones I have mentioned are enough tomake me say 'Thanks, but no thanks'. I have yet to find hypertension medication that I can tolerate. They every have serious problems, and do not do many for the HBP anyway. Male, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : Hypertension / High Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : As far as I can tell I've had no side effects from it particular drug. However, I also take some others (Nexium, Xyzal & Nasonex, for allergies, and up until recently, zocor). I have had side effects which I have attributed to zocor, which I stopped & did have vertigo and sinus problems which, I believe, were allergy related. I do not attribute them to hyzaar.
Review : it brought my BP down from 160/100 to 140/80 so it has been beneficial in that regard. I have experienced almost none about side effects mentioned by other posters and those that I did experience I attributed to either zocor or allergies which the xyzal seems to be controlling.

Dr. told me to stop taking, & called in prescription for lisinopril. the side effects for that one sound worse than this one. Hyzaar dropped my BP like rock & me along with it. Is there any BP medication out there with less toxic side effects? it seems as though It's necessary trade-off..lower your blood pressure...feel horible in process.

Side Effects : Dry cough, profuse sweating, fatigue, sore joints, nervousness, depression, anxiety (extreme w/ panic attacks), moodiness, memory loss (short & long term), apathy, and others
Review : other than cough, symptoms started after about 2 yrs. increasing slowly over time. My dr. added Wellbutrin for 'burn-out' to help with depression & anxiety. it took three mo. since them to noticeably lessen. After another year symptoms increased again and then depression and anxiety increased. I eventually dropped Wellbutrin & they lessened. Memory loss was what made me start looking in to long-term side effects. My job requires I be able to think on my feet and I couldn't remember what I was doing long enough to finish conversation. When long-term memory was effected I realized I had to do something soon. After some research I decided to see what would happen if I stopped taking Hyzaar. Each day I felt better and after of mo. I felt almost normal. I haven't taken Hyzaar for over year & feel better than I have since before I started taking it. I can remember things, work on project all day, work in yard, basically do every things living

Review : So far It's controlling my pressure quite well. BP is well within acceptable ranges. I could not control it with HCTZ alone. the combination therapy seems to be working. Systolic is usually under 125 & diastolic is unually under 85. it has worked well.

Male, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : Hypertension / High Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : Weight GAIN, loss os sexual drive, depression, loss of drive for things I used to love to do, not able to get excited about any thing, always sweeting, not able to sleep through the night, always a stuffy nose, neck & back aches, always foot & joint pain, 8 months after taking Hyzaar my colon blew out & I had to wear a colostomy bag for months until my colon had healed. before my colon blew out I had bad gassy side aches every time I ate. severe heart burn after eating. ringing in ears. no energy.
in all it is a bad bad med that I am going to stop taking!
I wish I would of realized sooner all the bad that Hyzaar does!
Review : None of these things started until I was taking this drug.
this has lowered my BP little, but not much.
it isn't worth the trade off.
I will take my chances with high BP.
this med has almost killed me once.
and turn my life in to not happy zone.

Review : I had no side effects taking this med, as apposed to Atenolol & Procardia. But It's effectiveness after a while should be examined as it eventually was not enough to control my HBP & my physician added a calcium channel blocker (verapamil) to my daily regimen.

Female, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : Hypertension / High Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : Apparently caused depression after taking for only few days.
Review : I have been slighty prone to depression. However, one time taking Hyzaar, depression was triggered. this potential side effect must be presented prior to prescribing medicine.

Female, Age : 50-60 years old
Side Effects : Dizziness, nausea, bloating & abdominal pain, pain in legs, total loss of energy, weight gain, fast pulse
Review : this is an update of my earlier comments about this drug. I keep gaining weight (which certainly can't help my blood pressure), my abdominal area is constantly bloated & achy, I have no energy to do anything, my legs hurt love crazy and my pulse is always fast. I was originally on two other bp medicines which I gave up because of severe side effects, & when my doctor prescribed Hyzaar I thought at first that this tablet was better fit because the side effects did not seem so severe (at first). Over the course of last few months I have been miserable - I can't remember what it is like to actually feel good. When I tried to wean myself off the Hyzaar, my blood pressure went back up. I am getting ready to go and see my doctor (again), but I have a feeling he won't do much of more than prescribe something else (probably whatever is newest bp medicine to come out on the market). Totally discouraged at this point.

Female, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : Hypertension / High Blood Pressure.
Side Effects : Extreme anxiety almost to point of panic attacks. Insomnia.inability to sleep through the night. Not sure that this worked that well on BP
Review : When I contacted my doctor about extreme anxiety being side effect about hyzaar he said he had never about of that before and wanted me to keep taking it until I saw him again. I cant get in for 5 weeks. I am so miserable I cant take it that long if that is what has caused this anxiety as I am totally miserable. I want to just stop taking it but am afraid to do that without physicians guidance. Also I have had to start potassium supplements & need guidance on that if I stop it. Not sure what to do.

    Male, Age : 50-60 years old , Reason : High BP 145/95.
Side Effects : I was very light-headed the 1st two weeks, especially during exersion or after quickly standing up. this feeling subsided to occasional & mild episodes. I also have occasional muscle spasms which I attribute to Zocor that I take for high cholesterol. I have to contol food intake more now to avoid weight gain but that could be my age and activity level. My memory recall isn't what it used to be, maybe the Hyzaar? I normally love to work hard, physically, not now.
Review : I started on Cozaar but it didn't achieve desired BP level. Hyzaar has my BP at 120/80. I don't want to take drugs for rest of my life but cannot tell if other options are better. I had an episode when my BP spiked to 190/120 & I felt terrible. That is when I started the medications. the drugs works well for controling BP & I cann't make solid case since overwhelming negative side effects.

Side Effects : I didnt have any side effects.
Review : My blood pressure was typically around 150/105 before taking Hyzaar. After 3 months, my pressure was down to about 135/93, so it has helped but I'm still not into normal range. My physician plans to add Toprol to Hyzaar to see if that will help.

Female, Age : 60 and up years old , Reason : Mild hypertension.
Side Effects : Nausea, vomiting, disorientation requiring ER first time taking it
Review : I took this at morning of day it was prescribed. As I was eating dinner, I suddenly experienced mild dizziness. When I got up, I could not walk without holding onto something & my gait was if I were drunk. I began sweating profusely, became nauseated, & had mild disorientation. After an hour of extreme vomiting and profuse sweating, my friend, an RN, took me to the ER where every requisite tests were run (x-rays, blood, EKG, etc) with findings about normal but by than I was dehydrated and required hydration. I had not eaten anything that might have caused this reaction and both health care providers & I concluded it was reaction to Hyzaar.

this is dangerous drug & I urge extreme caution in taking it. I wouldn't touch it again.
