Carnitine Usage: Also known as L-carnitine, it is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative required by the body in energy metabolism & for proper use about fats. this drug is used as dietary supplement to treat carnitine deficiency. it may also be used in persons with abnormal plasma lipoprotein patterns. If you have serious kidney disease (such as ESRD/dialysis), the intravenous (IV) form of carnitine should be used. the reason is that large doses about carnitine taken by mouth for long periods of time may result in serious side effects (e.g., seizures), interfere with dialysis (increased nitrogen wastes), and cause 'fishy odor' to occur.
How to use Carnitine: Take this medication as directed. don't skip any doses or take this more often than prescribed. liquid form may be taken alone or dissolved at drink. Drink this slowly to prevent stomach upset. Doses should be spaced evenly every 3 to 4 hours as directed. this is best taken with or after meals. pills or capsules should be taken at evenly spaced intervals. If stomach upset occurs, take each dose with food.
Carnitine side effects: this medication is generally well tolerated. this may cause nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, diarrhea, body odor or muscle weakness. If any of these symptoms continues or becomes bothersome, consult some your doctor. Contact your physician immediately if you experience: seizures. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact you're pharmacist or pharmacist.
Carnitine Precautions: Before using it medication, tell youre physician or healthcare professional your medical history, especially of: epilepsy, severe kidney disease, any allergies. this medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your pharmacist. Consult your healthcare professional before using any drug while breast-feeding.
Carnitine medication interactions: Tell your physician of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or physician approval.
Carnitine Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Carnitine special notes: their is product sold in health food stores called vitamin Bt. it contains a MIXTURE about D-carnitine and L-carnitine. this isn't same as L-carnitine and can cause you problems. Be sure to take L-carnitine ONLY.
If you missed Carnitine dose: If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if this is near time for the next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Carnitine Storage: Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store at bathroom.
