Maxalt Usage: this medication is used to treat acute migraine attacks. it drug does not prevent future migraine attacks.
How to use Maxalt: this drug is taken by mouth as directed for migraine attacks. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response. If no relief occurs after 1'st dose, consult your MD or pharmacist. Doses generally separated by at least 2 hours. in U.S.: don't exceed 30 mg in a 24 hour period. in Canada: according to drug manufacturer, do not exceed 20 mg in 24 hour period.
Maxalt side effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, or headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify some your physician promptly. Unlikely but report promptly: mental/mood changes, chest pain, neck/jaw discomfort. Very unlikely but report promptly: irregular or fast heartbeat, unusual weakness, vision changes, cold/tingling/numb hands or feet, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, fainting or unsteadiness. An allergic reaction to it drug is unlikely, but seek immeditial healthcare attention if this occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
Maxalt Precautions: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, heart or blood vessel disease/stroke, kidney disease, liver disease, intestinal disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, family history of heart problems, smoking history. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate med side effects. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving), as this medication can cause drowsiness or dizziness. this drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with you're doctor. It's not known whether this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult youre doctor before breast-feeding.
Maxalt med interactions: Tell your doctor about every nonprescription and prescription drug you may use, especially: propranolol, other 'serotonin-type' drugs such as SSRI antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine), nefazodone, venlafaxine, other 'triptan' medications (e.g., sumatriptan), MAO inhibitors (e.g., selegiline, furazolidone, moclobemide, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, linezolid, procarbazine), sibutramine, tramadol, 'ergot-type' drugs (e.g., ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methysergide). Tell your doctor if you take drugs that cause drowsiness such as sedatives, tranquilizers, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines or tricyclics), muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). cash labels on every youre medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your physician about safe use about these products. don't use this drug within 24 hours of any 'ergot-type' or 'serotonin-type' medications. do not use this drug together with an MAO inhibitor or within 2 weeks of stopping an MAO inhibitor. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or physician approval.
Maxalt Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include unusual dizziness or drowsiness; slow, fast or irregular heartbeat; & vomiting.
Maxalt special notes: don't share this medication with others. Medical tests will be done to monitor since drug side effects.
If you missed Maxalt dose: Not applicable.
Maxalt Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light & moisture.
