Metronidazole Usage: Metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of infections.
How to use Metronidazole: this drug must be taken with food or a full glass of water or milk to prevent stomach upset. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by taking drug at evenly spaced intervals throughout day & night. Continue to take this med until full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a several days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in relapse of the infection.
Metronidazole side effects: Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, change in taste sensation or dry mouth may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your healthcare professional. Unlikely but report: seizures, loss of consciousness, tingling about hands or feet. Very unlikely but report: unsteadiness, mood/mental changes, rash, itching, sore throat, fever, severe stomach pain, vomiting, vaginal irritation. this drug can cause urine to darken in color. it isn't harmful. in unlikely chapter you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Metronidazole Precautions: Tell your physician your medical history especially about: liver problems, seizure disorders, any allergies. Use of it medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this medication and for at least 3 days after finishing it medicine because severe stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, headache and flushing may occur. Tell you're healthcare professional if you are pregnant before using this medication. it should not be used during 1-st 3 months of pregnancy & used with caution during last 6 months. this medication is excreted into breast milk & using it while breast-feeding isn't recommended. Consult your doctor.
Metronidazole drug interactions: Inform your pharmacist about every medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take: phenobarbital, 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin). do not take this medicine if you currently taking disulfiram. Contact some your physician. don't start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or doctor approval.
Metronidazole Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, & seizures.
Metronidazole special notes: Treatment of certain infections (trichomoniasis), may require that sexual partners be treated as well to avoid reinfection. During therapy, refrain from sexual intercourse or wear condom. this drug has been prescribed for you're current condition only. do not use it later for another infection or give it to someone else. a different tablet may be necessary in those cases.
If you missed Metronidazole dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if It's almost time for following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.
Metronidazole Storage: Store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
