Female, Age : 31-40 years old , Reason : UTI.
Side Effects : anxiety, nausea, gas, terrible back pain, diarrhea, feelings of impending doom
Review : I developed a UTI. I was given three days of 500mg cipro to be taken twice a day. The lab confirmed the UTI through a urine culture. E Coli.

I completed the course without much incident, save a little diarrhea. My symptoms returned a week and a half later (bloating, excessive need to urinate, unable to completely empty bladder, but no burning.) I returned to an urgent care. They indicated that I needed another course of cipro. This time, for 7 days. I started the course of treatment before the urine culture was completed. During that time, I developed gas, and severe back pain!!!! Post treatment (3 days after finishing the course of cipro) I developed pretty extreme nausea and constipation. My back pain continues but has lessened.

Here is the point: I was healthy!!! I am in the prime of my life. I run several miles a week, I do yoga and I eat a low fat diet. I have thrown up only once in my life. I NEVER have gastrointestinal issues. I NEVER have back pain.

I do not have a medical degree but I am convinced that I did not need another 7 day course of cipro. (The urgent care called me with my urine lab results. They were negative.)

The anxiety was probably the worst part. I had convinced myself that I was dying. I went from being a sensible, normal, professional woman to an anxiety ridden mess.

Do yourself a favor, educate yourself and be your own advocate!!!
