Decongestant/antihistamine/anticholinergic - oral

Phenacon Usage: Decongestants relieve nasal stuffiness. Antihistamines relieve runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose & throat and itchy, watery eyes. Anticholinergics have a drying effect on mucous secretions. it combination drug is used to treat symptoms associated with common cold, allergies, hay fever, sinusitis & other respiratory illnesses.

How to use Phenacon: Take it medication as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. do not increase your dose or take it more many times than directed. it med is best taken with full glass of water after meal or snack. Long-acting tablets & capsules should be swallowed whole. do not crush or chew them or the long action may be destroyed & the chance of side effects increased.

Phenacon side effects: Dizziness, headache, loss about appetite, nausea, blurred vision, constipation or dry mouth, nose & eyes may occur 1'st several days as you're body adjusts to the drug. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your physician. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, rapid pulse, skin rash, high blood pressure, difficulty urinating, tremors, nervousness, hallucinations. To avoid dizziness & lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake about alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact some your doctor or pharmacist.

Phenacon Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, depression, any allergies. check it product's ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). FDA has issued warnings regarding PPA side effects. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it contains PPA or if you uncertain it product has PPA. this pill must be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your healthcare professional. since small amounts of this tablet are found in breast milk, consult your physician before breast-feeding.

Phenacon medication interactions: Tell your pharmacist of any over-the-counter or prescription med you may take including: drug for blood pressure, drug for depression such as MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline). Tell your pharmacist if you take tablets that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines or tricyclics), anti- seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages while taking it pill. do not start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or pharmacist approval.

Phenacon Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea/vomiting, headache, weakness, disorientation, hyperactivity, restlessness, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, fast breathing, fever, hot dry & flushed skin, seizures, or coma.

Phenacon special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this drug. it will help to break up mucus and clear congestion.

If you missed Phenacon dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near time for the following dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

Phenacon Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in bathroom.
