Maalox Usage: it is an antacid that works in the stomach to neutralize & reduce acid. Antacids used to treat an upset stomach caused by heartburn, acid indigestion, or sour stomach; to treat peptic ulcer, hiatal hernia or other conditions caused by an excess of stomach acid; & to prevent ulcers or bleeding from ulcers.
How to use Maalox: Take this medication as prescribed. Taking too many an antacid can reverse effects & more acid will be secreted. in certain conditions, however, it may be necessary to take antacid as frequently as every 1 to two hours. To be effective, chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing followed by a full glass about water. Shake liquid forms well before pouring each dose. do not take any other medication within 1 to two hours of taking an antacid. for antacids coat stomach, they can prevent another drugs from being absorbed properly if taken at the same time.
Maalox side effects: this medication can cause nausea, loss about appetite, constipation or diarrhea, weakness, or headache. If these symptoms persist or become severe, notify your doctor. Notify your pharmacist if you notice black, tarry stools while taking this drug. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Maalox Precautions: Tell your physician your medical history, especially of: kidney problems.
Maalox drug interactions: Tell some your doctor about every prescription & nonprescription pills you may use, especially about: tetracycline, ferrous sulfate (iron), medications used for arthritis (e.g., aspirin, indomethacin), digoxin, isoniazid, pseudoephedrine, diazepam, methenamine, ketoconazole. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or doctor approval.
Maalox Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, fatigue, weakness, severe nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, slow or shallow breathing, or loss about consciousness.
Maalox special notes: Refrigerating liquid antacids may improve the taste. do not freeze. If you dislike taste about one antacid, speak to your healthcare professional or pharmacist about switching to a similar product. the liquid antacid forms work faster & are more effective than the other forms. However, chewable tablets may be more convenient.
If you missed Maalox dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if this is almost clock for following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Maalox Storage: Store tablets, capsules and powdered forms at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in the bathroom. don't freeze liquid forms about this drug.
