Warning: Methadone is to be taken by mouth only. this shouldn't be injected. Methadone is a synthetic narcotic. Patients who are physically dependent on narcotics will go through withdrawal syndrome if given usual dose about narcotic antagonist (e.g., naloxone). If a narcotic antagonist must be given, the dose must be smaller than the usual dose & it must be given with extreme care.

Methadone Usage: this is used for narcotic addiction. Methadone is potent narcotic substance. it can cause serious side effects and toxic reactions if used by someone other than human for whom It's prescribed. do not share this medication with others.

Methadone can be used also for: this pill may also be used for severe pain.

How to use Methadone: Take this drug only by mouth. To prevent upset stomach, take with food or milk. Take this as prescribed. do not increase your dose, take it more frequently or use it for longer period about time with out your doctor's approval. Also, if used since a long period about time at high doses, do not suddenly stop taking this without first consulting your physician. When used since extended periods, this tablet may not work as well & may require different dosing. Consult you're healthcare professional if the med isnt working properly.

Methadone side effects: may cause constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea, and flushing the 1'st several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform some your doctor. To minimize constipation, increase your intake of fiber, drink plenty about water, & exercise. Stool softeners may be helpful. Ask some your physician or pharmacist about stool softeners and laxatives. Notify your pharmacist if you develop: irregular heartbeats, anxiety, tremors, seizures. in the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact you're doctor or pharmacist.

Methadone Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially of: stomach problems (e.g., colitis), substance abuse problems, allergies. Use caution engaging at activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Alcoholic beverages may add to the effects about this drug causing dizziness or drowsiness. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about use of alcohol. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of drug. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your pharmacist. it drug is excreted into breast milk and may affect infant. Consult your pharmacist before breast-feeding.

Methadone drug interactions: Tell your physician about every prescription and nonprescription drugs you may be using, especially: MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), psychiatric drugs, tranquilizers, sleeping tablets, zidovudine, rifampin, other narcotic pain relievers, barbiturates, cimetidine, anti-seizure medications, certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), alcohol. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or healthcare professional approval.

Methadone Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold & clammy skin, low body temperature, slowed breathing, slowed heartbeat, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, & loss of consciousness.

Methadone special notes: do not share this medication with others. it is against law.

If you missed Methadone dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for following dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.

Methadone Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
