Decongestant Usage: Pseudoephedrine is used to provide relief from nasal or sinus congestion caused by allergies or the common cold, or ear congestion caused by inflammation or infection.
How to use Decongestant: It's recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking this drug, unless some your healthcare professional instructs you to do otherwise. Sustained-release or long acting tablets & capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or crushing them will destroy the long action and may increase side effects. If symptoms do not improve after 7 days or accompanied by a high fever, notify youre healthcare professional. do not increase the dose or take it more frequently than recommended.
Decongestant side effects: can cause dizziness, headache, fast or pounding heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, difficult or painful urination, sweating, nervousness, restlessness, or trouble sleeping. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to medication. If they persist, become severe or bothersome, inform your physician. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact some your doctor or healthcare professional.
Decongestant Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing heart problems, kidney or liver disease, lung disease, emphysema, HBP, overactive thyroid, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, difficulty urinating or an enlarged prostate, history of seizures. it drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your physician. Pseudoephedrine passes in to breast milk & may have undesirable effects on nursing infant. Using this drug while breast-feeding isn't recommended.
Decongestant med interactions: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription drug you may take including: sleeping tablets, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, HBP medications. Tell some your doctor if you have taken any MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last 2 weeks. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or healthcare professional approval.
Decongestant Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include irregular or unusually slow or rapid heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
Decongestant special notes: talk with some your doctor, healthcare professional or nurse about diseases you have and meds you already taking before using any new medication.
If you missed Decongestant dose: If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered if within an hour. If you do not remember until later, skip missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the doses.
Decongestant Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
