Docusate Sodium Usage: this medication helps fluids to mix with the stool to keep them from becoming hard or dry. this is used to treat constipation.

How to use Docusate Sodium: Swallow capsules & tablets whole with a full glass of water or juice. the liquid & syrup forms must be given in 6 to 8 ounces about milk or juice to prevent throat irritation. Relief is usually obtained in 1 to 3 days after 1st dose.

Docusate Sodium side effects: this medication may cause stomach ache, cramping or irritated throat (liquid & syrup forms). If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your physician if you experience: skin rash, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements. Frequent use of laxatives can cause dehydration and loss about essential nutrients. Symptoms include muscle cramps, muscle weakness or dizziness. Maintain an adequate fluid intake while using it medication. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or pharmacist.

Docusate Sodium Precautions: do not take aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor) or mineral oil while taking stool softeners. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take over-the-counter stool softeners (or any other nonprescription medication) without obtaining some your doctor's advice.

Docusate Sodium med interactions: this med isnot recommended for use with mineral oil. Ask your pharmacist or pharmacist for more details. Tell your doctor about every prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially aspirin.

Docusate Sodium Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Docusate Sodium special notes: Laxatives should only be used temporarily until normal bowel habits return. Prolonged use can lead to laxative dependence. To prevent constipation: drink 4 to six glasses of water per day, include bulk or roughage at your diet, & exercise regularly.

If you missed Docusate Sodium dose: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; don't take if It's almost time for the following dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume you're usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

Docusate Sodium Storage: Store in room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
